Default Planning to buy a few things and looking for recc's

Hey,

I'm planning to buy the following items; Dust Goggles, Gloves, Extra lenses and some Tear offs [to protect lenses and of course to make riding more efficient...].

I won't say I don't have some items in my mind, but I chose them mainly because I know the brand names, not because I've some extensive experience with them, so I was wondering if any one around here would have some reccomendations.

The usage will be mainly offroad riding. I would preffer Light Sensitive lenses for the goggles...

Also, if allowed by this forums rules, I would like more ideas for online stores [though I have one that im sort of set on, but that can be changed ;P ]

shopping within the US. Budget is not very strict, but lets say i'd like to keep the whole order within the 130$ +- plus shipping range... But the budget isn't that strict that I will absolutely wont consider anything that exceeds it a bit..

Thanks.

Many of the on-line places will offer free shipping if the orders are over $100

Hi,

Uhm... I saw some people mentioning motorsports.com and i've checked the site, alright prices and stuff but i've not seen any recommendation there for what gear should I get..

So, can you regard that too?

Thanks.

well u mentioned a goggle, i have a pair of scott 83, and they are not very good. I sweat quite a bit and the sweat would seep past the foam and get into my eyes... (BURN!!!!!!!), so i got a new pair of thor hero goggles..... AWESOME! they are the only pair of expensive goggles i have ever owned, but they are amazing (i think they run at about 45). i have a pair of double pane smoke (tinited fade to clear), mirror that good for sand (no reflection, but not good looking into the same direction as the sun) and yellow ( a middle ground for all around)...i would also suggest some anti-static lens cleaner. dust doesn't stick to the face of the lens and ur goggle stays fresh for a whole day or two...

for gloves i use fox bomber gloves, they have carbon fiber knuckles so when i fall im all good.

and i dont use tear offs.....

hope this helps!

Most of the items you mentioned are a matter of taste and comfort, not easy to make specific recommendations on something like that. As far as the goggles, I suggest you take your helmet with you and try some on, for size and fit. Not all brands of goggles, will fit comfortably into all brands and styles of helmet. Like deuceshigh7 said, sweat absorption is paramount...look for thick foam on the frames, as they naturally will absorb more moisture and are generally more comfortable. I like a blue tinted lense, that color seems to work well under most all conditions and especially, in the dust and dark. Tear-offs will be limited to the brand of goggles you choose, for the most part. I've used Smith, Scott and Oakley, since I'm limited to whatever OTGs (over the glasses) are in stock at the local dealer but I prefer Smiths...though I think I prefer Scott's tear-off system.

Gloves will depend on your taste in style and padding/protection features. If you're relatively new to the sport or don't get to ride often, you may want to look for thicker-padded palms...'til you build some callouses. Gloves tend to wear out fairly quick so try to find 'em cheap and get two pair. Closeouts may be a good place to find gloves, most all websites have a listing. If you don't see one, type "closeout" into the site's search feature and they'll come up.

Some sites I'd recommend are....

Hi,

Nic, thanks for the suggestion about FOX and the cleaner[which i didnt quite understand, how do I get that and what is it?], also, you said you bought high quality goggles and that you love'em but you didnt speicfy which brand/model are they heh..

@KSCHick, I understand that each and his own cup'o coffee but I was thinking[I still do] there's probably a few brands/models of gloves and goggles which are what im planning to buy at the moment, that are more popular [and for good reasons] /favored by the riders... and I just don't know which brands and models are they..

Also *Edit*, I didnt think the model of my Helmet is relevant at first but i'll note it now since you said it is, Its HJC CX-62 or something like that [I'll check the helmet later on to be more specific if you need the info], And I do have some parameters that i'm looking for in the gloves/goggles, for gloves - I'd rather they'd be very well ventilated and to be flexible for better dexterity to allow actions that some gloves restrict [IE closing helmet with the fingers....], for Goggles I noted that I would like them to have Light-sensitive lense, also to be well ventilated without premitting much dust in, and to have an easy tear-off system..

About close-outs, I'm not too sure that I would like to go for them mainly because I suppose newer models are better [the manufacturer did have a year or more to improve it didn't they? heh] and also but not mainly because I figure that if you pay more you get higher quality, or does that not apply in riding gear?

Thanks.

well.... the more u pay doesn't always directly effect the quality....the brand of goggles was Thor, and model was Hero... i mentioned it but it could have been mistaken for an expression. lol. also, if the gloves u are looking for are wanted to be well ventilated, look for the summer gear gloves. all the brands have a line of hot weather gear but all call it something different.

Thor calls it "AC."
Fox calls it "Airline" i think
MSR calls it "NXT Vented"
Troy lee calls it "GP Air"
and Moose calls it "sahara"

there are more, those are just the ones that came to mind. read the description to better find/understand.

also, closeouts are just last years models that they have extra of and are wanting to just get rid of. They are also sometimes like 50% off....
And not all the time, but sometimes the gear companies simply change their graphics and styling, and do not really improve on function too much, therefore justifying buying 11 month old, new, un-used gear... but that is just me and i am a poor college student, so i am always trying to save a couple bucks...

hope this helps, more

I second the love for Thor Hero goggles! I got mine for $30 shipped on eBay. I'm pretty sure the store I bought them from is still selling them too.

I have the brown/tan fade, with mirror lens, and, no sweat in my eyes at all, even with the hot Texas weather! I only have one ride in them so far, but I love them.

Oh! I also just ordered a pack of tear offs for them from rockymountainatv.com, so they'll be here Wednesday. It was $6.99 for a pack of 10, and, I had a pretty big order, so, it was free shipping.

Heres a couple pictures of mine:
