First, go to some of the gear sites and check for closeouts...sometimes there's not a "closeouts" shortcut to click on but if you type it into the search box, they'll usually come up. Call around to local shops, they sometimes have "leftovers" or even special orders, that never got picked-up, wrong size, etc. that you can get a deal on.

I've tried most of the popular brands, over the years...mostly their high-end models but I've had cheaper ones, for spare, dual-sport, etc. As far as I can see, most every boot out there is equal in performance and protection. For a time, it seems that we paid primarily for styling but anymore, the cheaper boots look as good or better, than the higher end stuff. As for durability, I hate to say it but....honestly, the cheaper boots have always outlasted my "Guccis". I threw a lot of money away, over the years but from now on...it's function, over fashion and the money I save, goes for gas.

I'm glad you are here with us and I'm not looking to make any enemies. But I disagree with you on the boot issue.

Sidi Crossfire and Gaerne SG10 rank at the top for MX. However, you won't get them for $100.
As long as a person is wearing all the protection they can afford, you won't hear me ragging on them.

I had some Oneal Elements and wore them out in just a few months. The nails came out of the toe plate and I ripped a hole through the side, looked like it might have been from my foot peg. I got a set of Tech 3's and I really like them. I looked around like you and read a lot. It was a tough decision and I have never owned expensive boots so I can't compare but I really like the Tech 3.

I would look for better quality boots in your price range. Don't buy cheap boots, they will cost you money and pain in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

i totally agree. the first pair of boots i got were some cheap $90 Fly ones because i really wanted to go riding but that was all the money i had at the time. They lasted two crashes and were totally destroyed. So i bought some Thor quadrant, put some dr. sholes pads in them and they have been awesome to me. Going on two years strong haha.
-nic

oh ya, and fly ended up giving me my money back for the destroyed boots!!

I wouldn't skimp out and buy cheap boots. I use to have the Thor Quadrant boots and they were a little flimsy around the ankles. Too bad I had to learn the hard way. I came down hard on a jump and my foot came off the peg and I ended up twisting my ankle. Wasn't a good feeling. I now ride with Alpinestar tech 6's and Fox F3s and haven't had any problems with them. Knock on wood.... Check out ebay!!!!
