Posted: Fri May 11, 2007 6:40 pm Post subject: SG-10 Gaerne boots -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Man guys and gals I can't say enough about these boots. I been dying to get a new pair of SG-10's kind of like getting a new set of gear, it just feels good to get something new every now and then. But to be honest I don't need to spend the money on new boots because the ones I bought in '04 are still in great shape. I raced a ton of races in them and practiced countless hours since then and the boots are still in unbelievable shape. Buckles are all good, original soles are still really good, the fit- still like a glove and so on. I have never had to replace a thing on these boots and I am shocked. I'd buy these again without thinking twice. The only thing that I can see that needs attention on the SG-10 hinged boots at this point is the rubber pad on the inside of the ankle of the boot where the hinge bolts on. It is getting worn down to where the screw can rub the bike frame a little. Like most riders I use that area to grip the bike. So I just called the toll free number for Gaerne about the rubber pad on the ankle mentioned above. They do make replacements. They have one side in stock the other is back ordered for a couple weeks. My cost is $3.00 each plus about $4 shipping. Can't beat that. I've looked at the Gaerne site and all the mags that reviewed them, love them, not to mention pros like Nick Wey. here is a link. lots of pros are wearing them and for good reason. They are great boots. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] You have to try these next time you get boots. later, Joe _________________ scriptures- James 1:12, Collossians 3:23, John 3:16 Sponsers, World of Power Sports Decatur, Fat Max Racing, One Industries, ASV, Regina, Gaerne, Dr. D., Devol, Tag, Decal Works Last edited by joe346CBMX; 05-11-2007 at 08:49 PM.

I am seriously considering the SG-10 for my next pair. I'm currently still using my Tech-8's from '99, which are extremely compfy. PLUS with the price of boots Gaerne has my vote as long as the comfort is there.

Nice writeup Joe. I'm going to be in the market for a new pair of boots before the year is over. I've narrowed it down to either the Gaerne's or the Scott boots.

I have been very pleased with my SG-10's, very comfortable with great protection and the buckles are smooth as butter.

I'm on my second pair of SG-10's. The first pair only lasted two years of riding at least every week. They are some good boots and as long as they continue to make them they'll be the only ones I wear.

Do the Gaerne SG10 and the fastback have good soles I know that they do not have replaceable soles so I was wandering if the soles will hold up. I just wanted to know because I don't have a lot of money to spend and know I need a good pair of boots I just want to make sure that I am getting my moneys worth.Do the fastback have much in common with the sg10, if the sg10 doesn't exceed the fastback by much please tell me.

Does the sg10 and fastback sizing run true to regular shoe sizes? I wear a size 12.

I've said it before but I had the same SG-10's since the full 2004 season. Running 2 classes more than 20 times a year and practicing so over 100 races and hours and hours of ride time and the soles are still in great shape. I wear a 10 1/2 D in street/athletic shoes and size 11 in SG-10 with race socks, plenty of room but not sloppy. have not tried the fast back but the SG-10 is an outstanding boot. Italian made at that. The only thing I've worn out is the rubber on the inside of the ankle is worn down to the screws. gaerne sent me replacements pcs. for cheap I just have to get them put on. joe

Second season on my SG10's here also (but I sure haven't been getting enough rides in lately!!) and they are a great boot for all the reasons that have been stated. Early on I had an issue with the buckle screws being to long and tearing up the leather but that has been fixed and is not a problem. Gaerne sent replacement screws no problem/no charge. Also I had one of the pads come loose but some Gorilla glue fixed that. Now the boot is awesome and is holding up very well all the way around. ps. for those considering the new Scott boot there is a write up in the new issue of DirtRider that you should read before dropping the coin.

What color of boots does everyone have, ( I'm thinking white or black).Do the white boots start to look yellow after some use or does the color not change much?

Hey Justin, running white right now but next time might go black just to be different. White looks good when new but eventually gets dirt stained. joe

Your welcome Justn, At Vet National I did not do as well as I had hope. 19th of 31 in +35C. I dropped down to C, like a lot of people do there, since I have slowed a bit since the old leg deal and I only rode there once before in 2005. We were 14th moto and they did not prep the track other than water after morning practice so it was incredibly rutted and rough. I rode too cautiously but stayed up. guys were going down everywhere. Not complaining it's just taht Red Bud gets far more rutted and rough than we ever see at home so guys were struggling. Some 30A riders I know raced 30B. They had just shy of 80 riders in the class and broke it down into 2 motos with top 20 in each advancing to main and the rest to a consolation race. One of the 30 A guys made the main but finished 39th. ANother 30A I know was 6th overall in 30B. So I'd have struggled to make the main if I ran 30B. It would have been doubtful. Anyhooo...we did have fun and great fellowship off the track though. Lots of laughs with the guys and all. sorry to hi jack the thread. joe

By far the nest boot I have worn in many years. I have a blue pair and my older ones are a black pair.

I just got these boots today, I tried them on and as soon as they were buckled I knew that their was something different about them. As soon as you put them on they are already broken in and if you have big calfs these are a must I have 19" calves and they were hard to get on at first but once you get them buckled they feel great and you can even get them tighter because the buckles are so easy to buckle. I haven't got to ride in them yet but once I do I will give a report. These are great boots.
