Default Buying new helmet..recommendations?

I'm pretty sure i'm going to ask for a new helmet for Christmas, but i don't know which one yet...looking to spend $250 at most...$300 is kind of stretching it, but will take a look anyway.

I was thinking of the Fox V2 Print Sin City...but one side looks kind of girly??..Take a look.

But yes, show me options!

Thanks!

I am not a big fan of Fox helmets. I however can find nothing girly about that helmet. I would sport it. But I have been known to wear a pair of crushed velvet or blue fur riding pants, (damn that was a long time ago)......so ehhh im probably not much help.

Well I would just go big on a helmet, after all it is your life if you buy a cheap one. Personally I would like a flat black shoei v-moto. they look so trick.

Steven,

If at all possible, you should get to a local cycle shop or two and try on a few different helmets. Particularly the Fox if that's what you're considering. I had a Bell Moto 7 before this last one and I liked the fit. I went with a Shoei because I liked the way it fit better than the Arai. If you don't mind shopping on Ebay, you can probably find a decent deal on a Shoei on there. Again though, you really should try several on before you buy one. A size small in a Fox may not be the same as a size small in a Bell helmet.

I actually just got back from Cycle Gear from trying on some helmets,
I tried on the Fox V2 one i have pictured, and it wasn't very comfortable, so that ones out...i tried on a $375 fox one too..it was pretty comfortable and light, but i don't think i would be able to spend that much. And to be honest i think there will be much more comfortable helmets out there for that much.

So, i think Shoei and Bell will be next on the list, isn't your helmet a Shoei Charlene?

I really like that one...but i'm sure it came with a pretty price tag.

eBay is not a problem, after all..that's where the rest of my gear came from.

Off to eBay i am!

Oh! Also, Charlene, while at Cycle Gear, i got a bar pad..made for my Fat Bar...AND it was on sale for $2.88.
Luck eh?

But..it's blue...eh, oh well..as you can see from my gear i'm not big on matching anyway.

AND. I got MX socks...that way you don't have a little piece of me going into your washing machine next time we ride.

Also, i ordered new plastics from Cycle Gear, All white with black side panels...only $60 after shipping..not bad if i must say so myself, all the other ones were alot more expensive..and the white side panels were $41..that's why i'll be sporting the black ones.

New grips too...

I'm happy.

I got my Shoei V-Moto for $250 from Ebay. Good deals to be found there.

Don't scimp on the helmet itself, just search for a price that you can afford. Many times a certain paint scheme will be discontinued and the price will drop considerably despite being the same helmet as it's $450 replacement.

I didn't get quite as good a deal as Baron, but mine was $325. I found a seller on ebay who had what I liked and sent an email asking what his best price was.

I agree with Baron's thought process on searching for a helmet.

I'm glad you got a bar pad, if you hadn't, I was going to fork over my spare for you. I really, really do not like riding without a bar pad. Good job on the plastics and socks!

I found some Shoei V motos on there anywhere from 279-350.. but i don't think i can convince my parents to spend that much...the whole "It's my life it's protecting!" speech doesn't see to work well?

But when i showed them the Fox one and it had the $220 price tag they didn't seem all too concerned..so i'm confused.

I know no one said anything about Thor...but what about the Thor Force helmets??

Sorry, but while searching i could have sworn this little guy called my name.

Yuck! I wouldn't put one of those on my head unless my only other option was a flake gold 3/4 helmet with a bubble visor, and even then it would be a hard decision.

Char, where did you get your helmet?
I can't seem to find one on eBay anywhere that looks like it?

You're choice in paint schemes rivals my choice in bike graphics.

Like I said, my head is worth the extra hundred dollars.

Quick breakdown here:
Bell = Made in USA
Shoei = Made in Japan
Arai = Made in Japan
Anything else = Made in sweat shops in some unfortunate country.
