Default Raptor piston and cam help!!

Hi, I kinda need help.. I have a 01 Raptor with edlebrock carb, yosh full comp exhaust, k&n filter, L & A oneway bearing and gear...

Now I want to change out my piston and cam from stock to
10:75:1 piston
Stage 1 cam
My question is do I need to change out my valve springs and vavles?? I really do not have that much money to change out everything also what piston to go with JE or Wisco?? Will this bring more power?? and is this the right thing to change out then change out the springs and valve later?? Thank you guys...

You don't need to change out your valves springs unless you go with a stage 2 cam. I can get you a JE piston for $130 and a cam for a good price too, but I can't remember the cost on that. If you do decide to go with the stage 2 or you want to replace the valve springs anyway, I can get you the kibblewhite spring kit for $115. Let me know if you have any other questions or if you need anything. I have had excellent luck with the JE pistons, just FYI.

I have heard alot of people saying that they have had problems with the JE pistons cracking. Just thought I would add that so you know.

I have read that too, but it's always been someone who had a friend, etc. who had the problem, so I don't know how many problems they really have. I do know that I've never had a complaint and I've sold at least 10 of them.

Did anyone else have this problem?? is there something I did wrong?? I had the cylinder honed and gapped the rings like JE told me to and the timing is on?? Do I need to pull start the and run it for a while to break something in? Please help... Thank you guys again...

The starter won't turn it over? Is it fully charged (the battery that is)?

No you don't need to run it with the plug out. How sure are you that the timing is on? Are you sure you're not 180* off?

Well the battery is charged fully. I even ran my car battery off of it (with quad battery out) and when I put it together the piston was at TDC and the cam lobes were down when installing.(turing over) The starter will turn over but when it got to the TDC position it came to nearly a hault about 20sec later then would pass that.... It turns over really good with the plug not put in.. My brother in law said that it could be a that the starter is weak and old? I'm going to recheck the timing... any way of doing that with out taking the cam head off?? there is a little peak hole how can you tell through there??

OK... Figured it out! It was the starter.. my starter is shot for that much compression. I pull started it behind my truck today and went for a ride.. and damn what a difference that made it pull hard. Now I just have to re-adjust my valves after break in for the cam it has a little bit of a knocking noise but no biggie.. Thank you guys for all the help...

Keep on riding hard... And FASTER...

Great to hear! Make sure the cam chain isn't too tight too.

No it will not start I have ordered a new starter. I have had to pull start it the couple of times I went riding. Now I am hearing a ticking noise? I dont know what it is... I set the valves at what the hotcam paperwork told me to and I checked after I broke the cam in and they are still good??

Does anyone know what the valves are supposed to be set at with the hotcam stage 1? I have the intake side @ .20 mm and the exhaust side @ .24 mm is that even right?? Thanx again guys.

How can the cam chain be too tight?? It has a spring loaded cam chain tensioner I think that it tightens on its own right??

You are right it has a self adjusting tensioner, but if you put it in when it's too tight, it won't back out. Just thoughts anyway, I have not idea why it would be too tight.

The valve clearance I would think should be the same as they were before.

You should check the cam decompression. it could be 180 out it is the round thing with two ears on it, that is inside of the cam. That could be why you are geting a slight noise that sounds like valves and why it will not start. the same thing happened to me

What round thing with the 2 ears on it? I dont remember seeing that! I did put a new cam in (hot cam stage 1) does that have it?? and the bike starts but really tough..((I have to pull start it now)) I put a new starter on but now my battery is shot so I am picking up a new one and trying that..

PS I did the work my self.. with my brother in law...

UPDATE... Hey I just broke out the stock cam and now I see what you are talking about I think.. It is on the cam the side that connects to the cam gear right? with the 2 little nobbies at the end that turn and a ball thing pops in and out while turing it.. I still did not see that on the hotcam!! and what do I have to do?? if it does just turn it 180 out??

THANKS BRO...

maybe you have to transfer that over to the hot cam? That would be the compression release, and without it, yeah, it would be tough for anything to start it.
