My dad's 2003 Raptor 660 is having problems running correctly off idle. It idles perfectly fine, the airfilter is clean, spark plug is new, the choke works fine, the carbs are clean, float height in spec, but as soon as you push the throttle off idle, it bogs terribly bad. It bogs and pops soo bad and just does not go anywhere, horrible performence. I finally checked the diaphrams and they look like they have swollen up, they will not fit back together correclty. I am wondering what would cause both the diaphrams in the carbs to go bad at the same time. The last time it was ridden it was for about five hours, through really muddy trails with many deep waterholes. Two days after the riding trip, it was washed down and cleaned up with soap and water, with no degreasers. It sat for about a week then we started it up and now here we are. Also, the gas was fresh premium pump gas from shell, as of the day we went riding. Could anything else be wrong, or do the diaphrams just typically go like that?

Is the accelerator pump working and giving it a shot of fuel when you hit the throtle? Does it pop and crack then settle down or keep doing it? Could you be sucking air around one of the boots going into the jug?

Does sound like it is sucking air. Check the boot behind the carb and see if it is cracked, check that the jets are clean, just do a real good cleaning of the carb. Also make sure when you oiled the filter(if ya did) you didn't put to much on. I have done that and ideled fine, till I gassed it.

I figured out what the problem was. The carbs and diaphrams are fine, for some weird reason, after I let the diaphrams sit overnight, they fit perfect. But the problem was actually the parking break. There is a parking brake rev limiter, and when the parking brake is on, the engine will not run right and basically die if you try to take off. The parking brake was not on, but the mounting bracket for the cable on the swingarm broke and the cable just rests there, well the cable popped off of where it needed to be and made it send a signal as if the parking brake was on. I really thought it was a carb issue, but I never dealt with an electrical issue before.

I had the same issue my raptor and it cost me a big ride. The lever on the handle bar moved slightly and caused the problem. SOmething here to learn for all raptor owners. Derek
