Default raptor 660 chain adjustment problems

i just bought my 2003 raptor 660 and i went to adjust the chain. I loosened the nuts on the side of the cradle and broke the cradle loose i then tightened the right hand screw then went to the left hand screw and thats where my problem lies. when i went to tighten the bolt it would not move, sprayed wd-40 on it thinking it had mudd in threads, ended up turning 1/2 turn both ways and then would get tight, so tight that the bolt looked to almost break off. I belive the person i bought it from had the bolt out and cross threaded it. what do I do ???? chain makes alot of noise and needs tighened severly

I would bet the threads are fine, but that the metals are dis-similar and have corroded together. My suggestion is to apply some heat and see if that helps. I also suggest trying to slowly to get it out. It will break off it you try too hard, as those bolts aren't very tough.

I had this exact problem on my dirt bike. It was a PAIN to fix.

In the end I had to drill it out and use an aftermarket replacement (which sucked).

My guess is you may end up doing the same, only drilling and re-tapping.

I hope you have better luck than I did, and may I suggest applying some anti-seize to those bolts going forward (it's a little tube you can get from any auto-parts store).

Thats a good point Woody...

raptor sport:
Are there inserts in the swingarm for the bolts to go into, or is it like Woody suggested (threaded straight into the aluminum swinger).
I looked at the microfische on a parts website but could not tell from the picture. You may not need it since you have the ATV right in front of you, but here it is anyways. You might need it later on for something else. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
