I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say the "oil mod", can you expand a little?

The YFZ450 has problem with lack of oil on the bottom of the piston. the oil mod "oil squirter" will squirt a small stream of oil at the bottom of the piston. A lot of shops are doing this mod for $50.I would like to know the size and angel of the hole so I can just do it my self.

Is this the mystery mod that Curtis Sparks has been charging $400.00 to do and would not let you know exactly what it was?

I thought this was only a problem on the very first YFZs built in '03 (still model year '04s)?

Unfortunately I don't have the answer to your question. I have read up on this supposed "problem", however have yet to meet anyone who has had the problem. I personally think it's an issue that is getting blown out of proportion, however I don't blame you for wanting it, as it is insurance. That's my .02

toofa,I don't know if this is it or not.Sparks charges $399 for Complete motor tear down & assembly and $50 for the mod. sounds like it.
Crunk, I heard that they fixed this problem but I am not shore they did.My 450 is a late model 03.
Woody_YFZ, Man you said it "getting blown out of proportion" this is what my piston looks like do to lack of oil.See the wrist pin it got very hot.
And It's not the $50 I would pay $250 for the tools to do the job my self. I enjoy working on my stuff.

Oh so you're one of the lucky ones that it actually happened to, huh? I was just saying that I don't think it's a terribly common problem, but while you've got it torn apart, I don't blame you one bit for wanting to do that. Good luck.

Yup .. looks like you have one of the '03 models with this problem. How many hours did you have on it before this happened?

What's it going to cost you to get it fixed?

Stop wishing. Start embezzeling. Buy something for the car, return it without the women knowing. Pocket the cash, things like that. They do it to us!!!

My wife already figured out all those scams. Cash back at that grocery store is another good way too .

You guys are hilarious. My YFZ really has more than enough power for me. The ONLY time I have ever wished for more power was hill shooting at the dunes.

Your right. My YFZ has plenty of power for my riding style. Hill shooting is fun .... for about 5 minutes. I really would rather be hitting a nice table, double, or step up then shooting the hill, but that is just me. Now drag racing on the other hand is a lot of fun I have found. Little Sahara doesn't have any place to drag race, which sucks. Sand Hollow has a killer drag strip and it is addicting! I'm seeing my next two mods as being cams and NOS .
