Default New project

I picked up another project this weekend. It runs, the clutch works, tranny works, rear brakes work, and the seat cover is pretty decent. Other than that, it's a basket case.
The engine is stained orange, it won't go into reverse, and I don't think there is a good bearing or bushing other than the rear diff area, lol.
I'll post some pics of the progress as my kids and I get it back in working order.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the orange mud stains off the engine? We scrubbed it with #0000 steel wool, tooth brushes and Bean Clean, but it's slow going. Works, but REALLY slow.

Thought I'd give an update on how things are progressing...or not progressing..hehe

I strippped it down to the frame and steering and started checking out parts...

The rear differential is trashed. It was full of thick, greasy mud and the ring and pinion are junk. I was going to try and rebuild it, but the ring and pinon, new seals/bearings are over $400. I can get a new one all set up and ready from Yamaha for $650. So this is going to take a lot longer than I was hoping, but don't they all?

It's been fun so far, but I was really hoping the ring and pinion would be in better shape.

I'm going to finish stripping it down to the frame, repaint the frame and other parts, clean up the engine more, and then mount it back in the frame and start the new top end and valve train rebuild. Will post more pics as things progress.
