Default new to atv's 1986 moto 4 yfm225

Hi everyone please forgive my ignorance but I am new to ATV's and situated in the UK, in a moment of weakness I have bought the above vehicle because it was cheap, quite good to look at and I love tinkering it has a couple of problems which I think I will overcome without to many difficulties but I would really like to know the right procedure for riding this!!! obviously it will only start in neutral as far as I can make out I then engage either high, low, or reverse with the hand lever on the left hand side and then move the foot lever to engage the drive ??? should I be moving the foot lever up or down and from then on I believe it is automatic is this correct, I have not been able to test properly because idle speed has set high to keep it running while I await delivery of a carb rebuild kit I have located over here and it is running quite erratically at the moment, also after stripping and rebuilding the carb I would like some tips on how to retune the carb. Many thanks Chris

I am not sure on the shifting. I would say it is an automatic from looking at the clutch, and shifting is not going to be very smooth with the high idle situation.

Found this, it might help.

Thanks for that but it will not let me register it seems because I am in the UK it goes fine until the registration asks for state and it will not let me enter anything after declaring I am in the UK

Stupid forum options...... I suppose that forum has been set up to not be visable overseas or something...

Well, lets see if this will work. Here are the links I observed in that thread. I downloaded one of them and it didn't ask me to register and it was free.
