Default Need help with Wolverine

I have a 1998 wolverine that I recently got. The previous owner told me the following was done to the engine.
1. complete top end redone
2. new valves
3. DG exhaust
4. bored .30 over
5. hot cams stage one camshaft

Now this is the problem I am having. when the engine is cold is starts up immediately without the choke. Within 3-5 minutes the engine gets so hot that it begins to vapor lock and will idle but when I give any throttle it bogs bad. Sometimes I have to feather it and it will go but most of the time I have to wait till it cools to run it. To give you an idea the carburator boot that connects to the engine gets so hot that if you drop any water on it it wil evaporate instantly. The engine doesn't overheat (as far as I know) but when I say it's hot it is extremely hot. I have taken the carb apart and cleaned it, removed the exhaust to see if there was a restriction, the pipes were clear. I haven't started it without the exhaust yet to see if it runs cooler because of the noise. I don't know what else to check, anyone with any ideas please help me out.

Check for intake vacuum leaks.

Did you ever rejet the carb?

I sprayed carb cleaner around the carb and intake boot and there was not change. I pulled the plug and the plug color was sooty black. What about changing the clip on the needle?

I'm still thinking the carb needs rejetted. If the slow jet is too lean, the PO could have richened the mixture screw to compensate. That will make the plug black.

How many turns out is the mixture screw?

ok, bought and installed a dynojet kit, with my elevation it calls for a 160 main, (stock is 140). Starts up, idles good but still gets hot. Checked the color of the plug and it was white= indicating lean, also it pops through the carb only when I release the throttle. One thing I forgot in my original post was that the air box lid was modified with those small round filters I have six of them. I contacted Dyno-jet and they told me to start looking at the air box lid because the kit I bought is for stock airbox. I am going to remove those filters but if that don't work what's next. Don't want to run it lean like that.
