I have been reading up on lowering kits for the 660 or other quads. will lowering my quad help keep the front end down off the line? i dont do a lot of jumping so im not concerned about clearance as much but i dont want the thing bottoming out either. what do you guys think about them?

I don't think a lowering kit will help much with keeping the front end down. Lowering will help stabilize the quad when cornering. If you want to keep the front end down get an extended swingarm. You can put a bigger front sprocket would help too.

im actually going to a 12tooth in the front. the reason i asked about the lowering kit keeping the front down is because i saw a guy selling them and he said that it makes the swingarm paralell with the frame and its supposed to help. i donno if its true or not i guess ill just have to try it out.
i do need it for cornering as well

Ditto on what Crunk said, if you want to keep the front end down, get a longer swinger.

Going to a 12 is only gonna make it worse. Go to a 14 if you want to keep the front end down, plus you'll pic up some top end. I'm sure Vinny will love that too

In sand your gonna hookup better then in dirt, so if your front is coming up in dirt then it'll come up even more in sand. When I drag in sand on my YFZ my front comes up all the way through 3rd and I'm running 1 size bigger front sprocket too. You can also compensate with your body weight by starting with your weight forward and then shifting it back as you get out of the hole. Launching for dragging takes practice, but once you get it down it makes all the differences in the world. From the 300' drags I've been in the race is won or lost out of the hole. Also, learn to start in 2nd!!!!

yea i do start in second first is just to high. it does take some getting used to. i sit all the way on the tank and once i go im on the back of the seat. i have to hit it just right because too much throddle and it wants to flip me off .too little and it kills it so i have been slipping the clutch a bit off the line. and thats no good. soon ill be hitting woody up for a new clutch as well.

A 12 tooth will give you major torque and you'll be shifting through the gears fast. A front sprocket is pretty cheap though, so you can always give it a try and if you don't like it change it back.

Ha! I feather out the clutch like mad, especially on the track! Your clutch should be good for a while. Sounds like you're getting the technique down for launching though. Like Woody said, front sprockets are cheap so get a few.

I almost never feather the clutch. On 2nd gear starts, I just drop it and go.
