Talking Just bought new yfz 450

Hello I'm from Duke Center, Pennsylvania.
I just recently sold my 2001 honda 400ex and my extremely modified DS 650 for the new 2004 yfz 450. I,m still unshure if that was a very good idea but that was all that the magazines were raving about for a race ready factory machine... This season at maple shade raceway I raced a 2000 Bombardier ds 650 that was heavely modified with ron woods rev box, works shocks, carbon fiber rims from hyper technologies and aftermarket baja A arms. It did ok (you can see at mapleshademx.com look for justin mcdivitt, quad d class...only raced 2 times though) But the problem was the weight, the bomb had gobs of motor but tooo much weight. Now the mag says that the yfz has a top of the line motor, but I think that the bomb had alot more motor hp and exceleration to it.. Then again how much power will the yfz get after break in and after my gyt-r and jet kit gets put in? And can somebody tell me why the motor makes so much noise? NEW MEMBER

I think you'll be happy with the yfz once you pull the airboz lid, rejet and open up the exhaust.A couple guys here have them and seem to really be happy with them.Do a search for the yfz here and you'll see the posts and hopefully get some helpful answers.

I'll let the other yfz450 owners speak up.

Till then Welcome to ATM

i have heard that just lifting the lid of the airbox, removing the baffle and then putting a 160 main makes it a brand new quad... then add the GYT-R pipe and you will be VERRRY happy.

now where did that dyno chart go.... KillerKX?

Thanks for the info. very impressive dyno
But does anybody know what that motor noise is I thought that there was something wrong with it and all the new yfzs there sounded the same....weird sounds like a constant drone, never changes in tone

I've been told that if you rejet, open up the airbox, and pipe it you can gain up to 10 HP. If you want some good info, contact either Woody_YFZ or killerkx37- they both have them and have tinkered with them a bit. Good luck, and (although it's a little late) WELCOME!

First things first, remove the baffle, it makes a HUGE difference. That's really all I've done to mine. I removed the air box lid just for fun once and that seemed to add a little more, I just don't like it not being covered. Give it some time, I think you made the right choice. I have been nothing but completely happy with my YFZ, that is once I removed the baffle. I wasn't too sure at first.
