2002 660 This thing is one issue after another. used to run great now it stalls when idling.starts great runs good on half choke, runs ok with idle way up, but normal idle it will just randomly stall. it runs well if your riding then all of a sudden it will run rough and then stall. I cleaned the carbs they wer clean, new gas, clean tank, clean plug, adjusted valves, i am stumped. It has stock exhaust partially gutted, and I don't think it has a jet kit, otherwise all stock. PLEASE HELP> Thanks. Last edited by raptorhater; 11-04-2007 at 07:18 AM. Reason: forgot specifics

Put your idle setting back to normal or just above 1. When it stalls -quickly check to see if there is any fuel in the carb bowls. You will find this easier to check if you pop the drain hoses off first. One step at a time ay..?

Standard pipe, airbox, filter and carb settings fitted/used? Check these out first. Like I said earlier - one step at a time or you will disappear up your own exhaust pipe...

It's not their fault. They dont tune it to your specs. Temp, alt etc. Try to screw around with the idle, richen it up, and check your airbox. Your filter may be clogged or just dirty. It also might be that there is air in your fuel lines. Try to bleed your main fuel line by popping the fuel line off, and let it drain out a little bit. Point the hose up, then down, and see if air bubbles come out. Then once you are ready to put it back on, make sure there is no air in the line. Air in your fuel line = not enough gas. If you say you have tried to richen it up, and it has not done anything, then this may be your solution. Give it a shot, what can you lose? |

As we havnt heard back from "RAPTORHATER" (great name!!!LOL) we can assume he shoved it over a cliff, sold it on Ebay or fixed the problem.... I prefer the later option. Good info for others here tho, often with our own bikes we make the problem bigger and more emotional than it is and some objective simple advice from others is all we really need. 99% of these types of issues often prove to be just a simple little (but frustrating) setting or such and can often be fixed quickly and simply by following a few rules. 1) got spark? Always earth the plug when checking! 2) Fuel? carbs, jets, floats, filter, blocked lines, valves???? Other than that start looking for simple things like broken wires, switches, earth points secured etc Cheers Last edited by derek01raptor; 04-19-2008 at 07:04 PM.

I might add that the last comment comes from lots of experiance working on my quads usually involving lots of swearing and skinned knuckles followed by a simple fix and a feeling of "you blimmin idiot!"

Lol, that brings back memories. I was working on my first quad a while back when I encountered a snap ring. 3 hours later, 4 broken screwdrivers, and 2 bent needlenoses later, my dad comes up saying "Here you go son, a pair of SNAP RING PLIERS" Hmm, imagine that!

Cause it's a yammie, good for boat achor eh! LOL My buddy had one same year and almost the same issue. If I remember, it had something to do with his main jet and an air leak.
