Default Having problems

Posted this question on YFZ central but just wanted some input here as well.

While riding last weekend my quad randomly shut off going up a hillclimb and all electrical was gone. Tried starting it up and it lost all battery power (discharged). Me and my dad went out to take a look at it today and found a few thing that may help you guys figure out whats wrong.

1. With the clutch engaged, and in gear, it still acts as if it is still in gear.

2. When you start it in gear with the clutch engaged it will turn over but the quad will jump forward as if you were starting it in gear with a kickstart.

3. When I push the shifter down but not fully engaged it will make a clicking sound somewhere near the batter.

Hope this helps

So far I think its not moving in gear with the clutch engaged because its about 30 degrees out and the oil is cold.

Does it start in neutral? Then when you shift to first with the clutch in, it acts as though the clutch doesn't exist and you just shifted it without the clutch? Am I understanding you correctly? I can't see the cold being a factor once your bike is warmed up.

I think he means like having it up off the ground with the bike or quad in Neutral, holding in the clutch and trying to spin the rear wheel. It acts as if its in gear and wants to crank right? my bike does this and i think its the clutch. I put new gear oil in the other day and ima see if that works.
I would check your clutch!

I cant get my quad to run...the battery is dead. That was my first issue, the fact that it wouldnt even run. Now I found out that while not running and in first with the clutch engaged the quad does not roll freely as it would before. Also when I try starting it in first (clutch engaged) it will jump forward as if I was kickstarting it without the clutch engaged.

hmm. thats a mystery to me to. I still haven't figured why my bike does the same ( not rolling freely). Recharged the battery yet? Good luck in fixing it

you may try to adjust the clutch lever. if there is a safety in there that makes it start only when engaded, it could be worn out or have a short. which will cause both of your problems. short will drain battery, plus cause it not to start properly. with having the clutch not adjusted good, it may be stuck in/out of gear. sounds weird, right? it should. its like adjusting it to roll a little like some do on a hare scramble race. what it does is make the clutch slip real bad so you dont have to pull in as far to engage or start. make any sence? i hope it does anyway LOL thats not a professional opiniojn, just one that i know from experience with my 400ex. try to tighten the cable to see if it keeps it from rolling. check all wires coming from clutch perch area for shorts-open wires-cuts-scraps and all that may cause it to short. charge battery on a slow trickle charge first. dont charge to fast it may fry it!

your having grounding issues. there is a little black wire that comes off the fuse/relay box in the middle of your battery that then runs behind the mounting plate, it then connects to another little black wire by way of a light green connector(looks a lot like a butt connector), ------ make sure that and all your other wires are tight. ------------- this will take care of the backfiring problem also(if it has one)
