Default 2001 Raptor Jetting Problems

Guys,

I saw that some of you will know more about jetting a raptor than I do. My bike is stock other than I have a K&N pro air filter and then a K&N Airbox Lid ( they are bran new ). This Airbox lid kit came with new jets and 100% perfect instructions on installation. When I removed my current jets they were 140/145 with the pins on the 3rd position ( stock ) is what K&N says. They have me put in 150/175 on the 5th clip on the pin float things lol. Needless to say this ran like total ***, I live in west jordan UT with elv at around 4,000 feet.

I put the pin float things back to the 3rd stock position and that fixed the large amount of stuttering that I had. However, it still stutters in first gear at low RMP's.

Could you give me some ideas? I was thinking about getting a Dyno or something jet kit and totally redoing it. I am horrible at doing this kind of stuff. Would it just be better for me to take it into South Valley and ask them to totally rejet it for me with a bran new jet kit?

Thanks,

Ronnie

I think that 175 is still the problem. Until you change exhaust or remove baffle 150/155 would probably be good and the needle in #3 would be safe for now also. Did you do any thing with the air fuel screws?

The 175 jet is waaay to big for the stock exhaust. 150/155 should be about right, if not a little on the rich side. The jetting should be staggered in incriments of 5 between the two carbs. I have my needles staggered between 3rd groove on the left carb and the 4th groove on the right carb. Does is pop out the exhaust when you decellerate? If so, richen the idle mixtures screws until the popping stops.

Not sure if this will help, but I just re-jetted my 03 raptor...I live in Murray (same elevation as you). I put in 142.5/147 main jets and left the needle in the stock position. I put 2, 2 inch holes in my airbox lid, removed the spark arrestor and drilled out the baffles on my stock pipe. I've also turned out the fuel screws (on both carbs) 1/4 turn out from stock position. It's running pretty well, but I may need to do a few more tweeks....hope that helps...

A 175/150 is a big gap between the 2 carbs. Also which carb did you put the larger main jet in? When the carbs are on the bike the right hand carb is the primary carb and should have the larger jet in it. I would take the 175 out and put in a 155 or a 160 and try that out.

Before I removed my air box completly I was running 155/150 with a K&N that fit the airbox with the stock lid with 3 holes drilled in it and a Full Yoshimura comp pioe system, and it ran sweet.

The Raptor has to be the biggest pain in the BUTT to jet because of the 2 carb setup on 1 PISTON. Hopefully in the future I will get the Edelbrock carb kit that takes it from 2 carbs to 1 carb.

This thread is pretty old I had posted the same thing in another area and got a lot more replies. Currently I've got the items installed now that is in my signature. I run a Dyno Jet kit in it now and I've had it at the dunes does pretty darn well I can usually stay in 2nd gear since it goes about 50mph :-)
