Default 1986 Yamaha Moto 4 225 tranny help!

Hey everyone! I might buy an '86 Moto 4 225.... But there is one thing that I would like to ask... The owner of the atv, told me that the atv has a High and reverse transmission. He says that he doesn't have a low on his bike. But I'm pretty sure that all Moto 4 225's had High/low/reverse... He says that it was an option back in the day.... I don't believe him... Can anyone please clear me up on this one??? The only thing that comes to my mind is that High/low/reverse shifter has badly adjusted rods.... Or he just doesn't know that the Low range is just a little push behind High, and he just pushes all the way forward and all the way backwards... I'm pretty sure that the tranny is ok because he says that it shifts and works flawlesly... Please help me out thanks!!

sorry I just bought one and was wondering about where to find a dipstick and what the oil capacity is? Mine has hi/lo/rev too! If you can ride it, you should be able to see if it has a low range. If you know an answer to my question could you let me know? Thanks--John T.

I had 2 of these. Both of them had high and low. I didn't get them new so I can't say if there is an option. However I don't think I ever used low on them other to test to make sure it worked. They are great ATV's for getting around on trails and easy to ride, but I never used them to pull anything since they aren't exactly a big ATV, so low gear might not be of much use to you either.

I did have a repair manual by Clymer around here for them. I'll have to check to see if I still have it kicking around and can let you know about the oil.
