Default 05 yfz 450 jetting

I`m new to forums so first of all, hello,it`s nice to find a place like this.I just bought a 2005 yfz 450 for a steal.it`s got gyt-r everything on it and it runs great. The quad came from Wyoming and jetted for there. I live in Arkansas so I know jetting is not right.Plus the pipe glows cherry red from head to about a foot back. It`s got a gyt-r pipe, twin air filter with the lid on.Does anyone have any numbers for me as far as jets go?Or point me in the right direction. Also what`s the deal with the `07 oil upgrade,is it really needed?
Thanks for all u guys help.

Welcome to . You'll fit right in, plenty of quad lovers here. The glowing head-pipe is normal

Do a search on jetting ~ you'll get all the info you need.

As was said, the glowing head pipe is normal.

I don't know the EXACT jetting specs for your YFZ, but a 45 pilot, 172 main and the stock needle on the 5th or 6th clip position should get you pretty close.

Also you are going to want to turn the fuel screw out approx 2 1/2 turns.
Hope this helps!

The 07 oil mod is mostly for those guys 04-05 putting in a new crank to bring their CCs up to 449. There were some cases of the wr crank not getting enough oil and busting their motors.

Even though you've got an 05 you should be just fine. For what it costs to get the "oil mod" done...if I was upgrading anything in the motor I'd get it done....but not out of the blue for the sole purpose of getting it.

Lots of jetting specs based on elevation and mods

Cam mod you might want to do (if not done already)

or you can just hit central and run some searches on jetting and the oil mod....youll find tons of info

Some places do the oil mod for around $75 or you can do it yourself...or go all the way and spend upwards of $300 buying all the parts yamaha uses on the 07s
