Default Suzuki RM-250...anyone good at 2-stroke carb tuning?

     

I've got an 04' Suzuki RM250 2-stroke dirtibke that I've had for a few years. It's pretty much stock except for an FMF Gnarly pipe.

It runs really well....nice and clean idle, lots of grunt, and a nice and snappy top end.......but the mid range has always just felt "fat" and burbley and sliggish. As soon as I roll into the throttle, it cleans up and comes to life. If it's idling it's great, if I'm on the gas hard it's great, but if I'm just cruising down a dirt road at mid-throttle.....it's really rich, fat, burbly, sounding. I'm assuming that in order to lean out the midrange...i need to move the clip on the needle up one slot...that should lean out the mid range...right?

I'm currently running a 172 main jet, 50 pilot jet, and the needle has the clip in #2.

Any advice would be great!! Thanks!!

Correct on the needle setting change needed to help lean it out.
One other thing to look at is the exhaust valve setting. It can flutter in the midrange if set incorrectly.
