OK! I got the 30mm socket at Sears and the clutch nut came off while I was using the Tusk clutch holder - finally. Removed the washer/inner basket/outer basket and now I am stumped. The Clymer manual shows a great picture of the transmission side view of the gear mounted to the outer clutch basket. The new Magnum billet outer basket I bought has 8 little allen hex screws (see photo). The stock outer basket has 8 little heads that stick up, but no threading I can see. How in the heck do you get the gear off to transfer to the new outer clutch basket? Thanks in advance for the help. I know D3luxe changed his clutch, Blitz393 and CCnut as well. Peace, Sean

OK - CCNut helped me out in a PM request for help. Thank you. The connectors holding the gear on to the transmission side of the outer clutch basket were rivots. Thankfully, I have a drill press. So, I started slowly and cautiously enlarging the bits I used to help obliterate the head of the 8 rivots and then finally to penetrate through so I could use a driver tool and a hammer to tap out the rivots. I did mark up the top of the protective cover, but I buffed the roughened metal with a rubber wheel mounted to a mandrel in a Dremmel tool. The Magnum billet outer basket just looks and feels so far superior to the OEM aluminum. There is no contest. After I dropped in the outer basket, a pressure washer, and a new OEM inner basket I locked down the washer and 30mm nut with a ratchet. I added the new Tusk clutch plates well lubricated with transmission oil in a gallon ziplock for the past month. I replaced the pushrod, piece, roller bearing, and shim - then loaded new Tusk springs in the pressure plate and tightened in a criss cross fashion until snug. Grasping the clutch lever now = feels like smooth melted butter. Can not wait to finish up the topend and get rolling.

my moose basket came with a billet plate to replace the steel plate on the stocker. i just used a grinder to take the rivets down, since i didn't have to save the steel plate. (thus, i didn't have to be careful... hooray! glad you got it done, and sorry for the useless post Rob

Hey guys, Since I got the clutch back together, I put in a new Wiseco wrist pin bearing, pin, + Wiseco Rings and Piston with a Tusk gasket set. The gaskets fit well, but the o-rings did not fit the top of the cylinder well - had to reuse the old ones. Added BelRay gear saver transmission oil. Used the blue engine ice as a coolant. Then, I got everything back with a new decal set-up Face Lift ( sweet - pictures to soon follow this post ). Since I was an old Golden Spectro fan from my teenage RM 125 days I used it for my new toy. I premixed with premium gas at 40:1. The Clymer manual says 32:1. The Golden Spectro premix bottle says run 52:1 since it is half synthetic. New plug, fired up on the second kick. I let it idle with minor throttle twisting to break in 5-6 min...Let it totally cool off for a few hours. Then I tooled around my neighborhood and I am very pleased, but I hear this sputter still while accelerating and I am seeing a lot of smoke at the 40:1 I mixed with the Rite Mix measuring cup. I had the air fuel screw set to 3 turns out from all the way in - as it was before I dissambled and cleaned the carb. I set the idle pin where I can see 4 spring threads as I did when I took the carb apart. On going to slow down - the bike seems to keep reving high even though I am not on the throttle. Any tips suggestions? Should I run a leaner mix = add a touch of gas to the 2 gallons I mixed at 40:1 Golden Spectro to test things out? It still starts on first kick now. BTW, the clutch does not lurch and is like butter now!!! Yea! As always thanks in advance for any help. ATM and its members rock! Peace, Sean Y

OK - So I decided to go back to the bottle and try the manufacturers 52:1 recommendation for the Golden Spectro. I drained what I had put in the RM's tank at 40:1; then, I added the rest of the bottle of Golden Spectro and added exactly 3 more gallons of 93 premium pump gas to my 5 gallon jug. The bottle says - "1 bottle:5 gallons = 52:1" for regular use... 42:1 for hard use. I loaded it back in the tank and went for a spin on the streets of my neighborhood. Less smoke. A more even carb feel. Less of a tendency to kind of rev on its own like it did with the 40:1 Golden Spec I first mixed up. It has been years since I have been on my old RM 125 - so until I get my old bearings back - I should not be 'riding hard'. I went back and read a lot of the posts on premix and brands. I also saw the wide ranging suggestions of crank seal replacements with smoking. I truly think this is a premix issue, but I will keep it in mind. I will break in this topend with the 52:1 Golden Spectro and see how she does. Then, I may try the Amsoil Dominator at 44:1. My local South Florida AutoZone does not have the Mobil MX2T or its successor, but I sure read good things about it other than the odor. If there are any Golden Spectro users I would love your input. Also, any other 2 stroke RM 250 riders out there. I am loving this 2002. BTW, It is perfect riding weather here - 74 F and breezy. All the best, Sean Y

Hi there, I finally got to take her out for some dirt fun! Hesitation from idle especially in first gear. Second and third wind out nicely. Still sounds a little rattle'y'. Like it is not smoothly cranking out the power. I was able to get on it a couple of times in second and third and it felt really really nice. But, there is still that hesitation. Spooge all down silencer..on swingarm right side..even at 52:1 = 12oz :5 gallons as per the Golden Spectro bottle. Can someone tell me about the spooge factor with Amsoil? Does it help clean out power valves? Any other 2002 RM 250 riders recommendations on jetting or needle clip settings. I am so happy that the bike is running, but now I want to dial it in. I have been reading old posts through the search area. All help welcomed. Peace, Sean Y
