Hey Lucky, If you take the screws out, the lever will pull out and it's probley the rubber o-ring that is bad .. Very easy fix and cheep to!! Thats the best kind!!....Jerry.....BTW just be sure to drain the tank first!

Shaun,I'm talking from experience here.I have a Yamaha IT 250 1980 model,an had the same problem. it to was already tight to turn. When the o-ring goes its gone. Tighting wont help, plus you run the risk of breaking off one of the bolts. O-rings are cheap. Just my .02 cents worth ....Keep us informed.....Jerry

it is a pretty simple fix,

1.removed fuel valve from tank and disconnect from carb

2. remove 2-4 screws holding the face plate of the valve on

3. remove valve by pulling it out and remove rubber o-ring

4. install new o ring

5. put it all back together

the only somewhat hard part is getting the valve back into the body with the new o ring on, sometimes they like to fold out and get pinched

problem solved it was found not to be the o ring (o ring was perfectly fine) but instead it was a plastic part at the bottom of the tap that was leaking around its threading put some plumbers tape on there and it has stopped leaking thanks for all your thoughts

( on the picture at the bottom of the fuel switch mechanism there is a partly painted blue/scratched of to white/cream plasctic screw in thing wich was causing the leak sorry im not very good at describing it hehe)
