| Just bought an '01 JR 50 for my son. Need to get it to run reliably before giving it to him. Spent the weekend getting it to run, new gas, cleaned air cleaner, drained and cleaned carb, new plug. Was able to get it to run fairly well with the choke on, but as soon as choke taken off, would die. After playing with this for about 1/2 hour, would not start at all. Pulled plug, a bit wet, but browinsh. Decided to give up for the day! Any thoughts on what to do next to try to get in better running shape? Have not done a compression check. All restrictors are out of exhaust. (air box seems to be stock) |

| Hi, one "newbie" to another.. You have a turd in your carb somewhere. Strip it down and soak it in some Yamaha carb cleaner. Use the cleaner staight. Count your turns on the idle and pilot screws. If there is a restrictor jet on the pilot try leaving it out. Blow it out, hitting all holes/orofices with compressed air... and go.. Adjust accordingly... JW |
