how do you tell what year your bike is?

If you get your frame number from the bike you can normally cross reference that to the manufacturers website..

As long as it's a US spec bike, the 10th digit in the vin will tell you what year it is. Do a search here on ATM for vin identification, and it should bring up a thread with the vin codes.

The 9th digit of the VIN is a check digit, and varies according to the production (serial) number at the end (last 7 digits) of the VIN.

The 10th digit of the VIN is the year code. The letters I, O, Q, U, Z are not used to avoid confusion with numbers::

Note that if your scooter was manufactured from say 2/86 - 2/87, it's likely to be a '87 model. This is fairly standard practice in the automobile and motorcycle industry.

Canada used/uses a different vin code, similar to the pre 1980 US vin code.

thanks for your help guys i was told it was a 2001 when now after checking its a 2000 thanks again

An ID plate should also be on the neck of the frame, right behind the number plate.
