I broke one of the clutch spring bolts off in the basket of my son's 98 RM 125. If I cannot get it out with an easy out, how hard is it to remove the basket to replace it? Thanks Kent

No biggie. Pull the hat and you will see a large nut in the center. Put a penny between the primary drive gear and then push down on the plates while using an impact to remove the nut. Now remove the clutch stack and pull the inner basket out. Whatch out for the bearing and some washers that will likely stick to the inner basket - handle with care. Scott

Thanks MXtras, I already have the plates out of the basket, can I just hold the basket while using my impact on the nut? How tight does this nut need to be when I go back together? Thanks Kent

I would put the plates back in. That nut should be pretty tight (don't have the spec, but it's around 85-95FtLbs if I recall). I few bumps with the impact will pop it right off. Scott

Thanks will do. I am not real clear about where to put the penny you mentioned. Kent

The penny keeps the whole she-bang from spinning and it limits the impact to the primary gears. These are the gears between the crankshaft and the clutch. Scott

Thanks for the help, I will tear into it this weekend. Kent

when you get it off, if you look from the backside, the hole should go all the way through. Just get a left handed drill bit, that will usually wind it right out without any chance of buggering up any threads

I never thought about that, I will see if I can find a left hand bit. Thanks for the tip. Kent

That penny will not work for loosening the clutch nut. Leave the clutch plates in and use an air impact. Tq when tightening is around 55#. This spec is critical as so the hub does not bind. This tool can be easily made from some old steel drive plates...

I know what you are saying, but I use a piece of copper to keep the teeth from brinnelling from the impact -not necessarily to hold the basket. Obviously, the inner basket is not connected to the primary drive gears. Scott

I had planned on using an air impact for removal and I will be sure and use my torque wrench on reassembly. Kent

I always just stuffed a shop rag in the gears to hold everything, lots of parts are cheap on ebay, sometimes they go for opening bid on older bikes, check there if you need one.

Well, the easy out worked and I removed the broken bolt and put everything back together. What is the proper way to adjust the clutch cable? Thanks Kent
