So i picked up this bike and it runs good but it doesn't idle. i know a little bit about bikes so i look for the idle screw on the carb and its not there. now is it normal for my bike to run ok without this screw and just the hole empty on the car? and i ordered the part from my local shop, when i screw it in and i have my bike running the bike should eventually idle as i adjust the screw right? what if it don't idle, whats next? thanks

You will hear many guys say 2-strokes never idle, and if they do, it's not for very long. However, if you are good at jetting you can get them to idle, but sometimes it's more work than it's worth -- Your call. The bike should still run just fine, because all the idle screw does is open the throttle a little bit to give it more gas (the same as you holding the throttle open). Yes, you should be able to simply install the new screw and hopefully it idles. I read all the time about 2-strokes that do idle and others that don't. I've never owned one, but the ones I've ridden usually idle at least for a little while.

from my exp, woody is right. Some will, some won't. I had a TM 400 zuke that would never idle. My CR500 would sit there and idle all day long.My jetting was right on the money with the 500 thou. god I miss that bike!

hey i got the right idle screw in but i have no idea where to begin. i would assume screw it in til its somewhere in the middle and then both ways but i am probably wrong. what do i do i can't take my hand off the gas for a split second and i hate it.

Screw in the idle screw until you can take your hand off the throttle. Then adjust your air screw until the idle increase some more, then back off a little on the idle screw. Work between the two until you get to your desired idle.

just keep tightening the idle screw until your idle starts going up. dont run it until you get the screw, the slide is very vulnerable to getting scratched with a hole in the carb for dirt to get through your bike may not idle however, as your compression gets lower, your bike will need more fuel in order to idle. eventually, you cant idle any longer, and by then its time for a new top end same bike btw Last edited by tjscott; 09-28-2008 at 12:50 AM.

It is a myth the 2 stroke won't idle. Of course they will.. Why give them an idle screw??! Lol It is just a matter of jetting the bike correctly for you alltitude and conditions. And having the correct adjustment on the air screw.
