2004 RM250 with no spark Evening all,
My son bought a mint 04' 250 from his buddy who dropped the bike in a water hole and hydro-locked it. Put the bike up for a couple months without emptying it and cleaning and it seized the bottom end. We bought it. I split it. Put a Hot Rod crank in it. New bearings, seals and a top end. The motor is brand new basically. Put it all back together again. Kicked it to break it in and NO SPARK. Coil resistance readings are dead on perfect. Continuity of all wires is good. All grounds are good. Checked the stator voltages according to the factory service manual at the big connector to the CDI. I am supposed to get 25V or more across two pins. I barely get one volt. I am supposed to get 2V or more across the other two pins. I barely get .1 V. This voltage test alone tells me the stator is bad. But to be sure I checked the resistance across two pins of the large plug going to the CDI where the manual says I should get 78-122 ohms. I get 96. Thats good. The other two pins I measure, the book says I should get 28-46 ohms. I get an open circuit. That tells me bad stator again. My question is this. I check for 200V or more to the coil from the stator I think is where it is coming from. I get like somewhere between 5 and 10 volts I think. DEFINITELY not 200V. The service manual says to use a Peak voltage adapter inline with my multi-meter when I am checking for voltage checks when I kick the bike over. I did not have a peak voltage adapter. What does that adapter do? Does it just keep the highest reading dispalyed on my meter? Could it effect my readings? If my stator is bad, which I'm thinking it is, where can I get a good aftermarket stator for my 04' RM.
Thanks all for helping me help my son.
Have a good night.
