Unhappy 1997 RM250 clutch slipping.

Help!!!! I had an inner clutch hub break on me so I replaced it with a new O.E.M. piece and installed a new Barnett Dirt Digger clutch at the same time. I followed Barnett's install instructions to a tee but now I have some pretty serious clutch slippage !!!! Any suggestions? I did change the engine oil at the same time and soaked the fibers and discs in the same oil I put in the motor so no mixing. The stock clutch was barely slipping when the hub broke but was still rideable, it's slipping too bad now to take to a track. I have put about 1 hour the new clutch and seems to be getting better but when I get on the pipe hard it slips bad. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you,
Michael Ekholm

Id take it apart and double check. Make sure you started with the right disc, and that the pressure plate bolts are torqued to spec. Loose bolts would cause slippage.

If not, try riding around and slipping the clutch to try and break it in a bit more.

Did you adjust it on the lever. You need to have about 1/8th to 1/4" of slack in the lever i prefer the lesser but thats just my style. Sound like thats the only problem not letting the clutch engauge fully.

Good point. If the lever doesnt have any slack, it wont matter if everything is installed properly- it still wont engage.

If he didn't adjust lever it would be time for us. Mike has been working on his own bike for around 9yrs. So he better know how to adjust lever.

i have a 1997 rm 125 and when you take off the clutch cover there is a little arm that connects to a shaft that has teeth that go to another shaft with teeth. i take the arm off and grab the part of the shaft that the arm goes on twist it so that it is al the way foward and then put the arm on so it is perpenducular to the clutch cover and tighten it. make sure the cable is in the arm through this whole time dut dis connect it from the place that it clips i. after the arm is tightened with the cable in it, clip it back into place. and adjust the lever by putting a quarter in between the clutch lever and the perch and loosesn the cable until the quarter falls out the tighten back up about 1/8 of a turn.

OK now I feel silly! I guess I did not think "lever adj." so deeply. Me who does not do bottom end internal maintenance.

Hey guys!
Ok, I do have the lever AND cable adjusted as far as they will go. I have been trying to slip the clutch as much as possible when I ride and it IS getting better But I never have used a Barnett clutch kit before and I have been getting mixed reviews about them. Any thoughts? I tried about 4 or 5 starts in my yard and each time seemed a little better maybe just needs to be "burned" in more?
