Default 1977 suzuki ts185

hi im new to the forum. i bought a 1977 suzuki ts185 last summer for $300 (dont know if thats a good price). its my first ever bike. the speedometer does not work, the tach did work but i removed the cluster. i live in the country so i ride on the road and was riding behind my friend in his car and he said he was going 50-55 mph and i was at top speed. when i top out, my engine bogs down for a second then kicks back up. well for a year the top speed has been the same. so this morning i was riding on the road and it wasnt going as fast as normal so i went home and put gas in it just to top it off. i went back out and it was faster than ever!!! i got up to the normal top speed but i kept increasing speed. it felt like i was going 65-70 mph!!!. the bike was screaming. when i went home and turned the bike off it was smoking like crazy. does anyone have an explaination for this?

Default A Faster Bike

I noticed my '78 TS185 got past a 6500rpm barrier where it grabbed a few more Hp and popped up to 65MPH. It may have been the wind direction lol. I noticed a much better top end speed when I set the main jet needle clip to second from the bottom... this would also depend on the main jet size, altitude, engine wear, also.
