Default New Bars need help....

I bought a set of Pro-Taper bars (CR Mid bend) and the mount kit. Now, I want to get rid of the rubber mounting B.S. so if I drop the bike I dont have to loosen the mount and recenter the bars. It is tiring to ride with one side pulled back a little cause the clamps are mounted with rubber cones. Ho can I get rid of the rubber mounts? Just remove the bushing and crank the bolts down tight? Lost on this one.

TIA,

Charlie.

No I would not try that, it sounds dangerous! I know a company called Fastway makes aluminum cones which replace the rubber cones you've got now. They are in the Dennis Kirk catalog, $23.99. I've never had that trouble with my KX, knock on wood. Anyway, I would contact Dennis Kirk.

Well looked at Scotts, only for the 89 model KX125. Drats. Need something, those dang things pass me off. I know the bar is not bent, and its such a PITA to recenter them in the middle of riding a trail. Ughhh. I thought there was some solid mounts, like the YZ, RM and others use. Oh well, will continue this on another day.
Thanks.
Charlie.

Your only other choice is a solid mounted aftermarket triple clamp, or banging the bars against a tree to straighten them back out.

Damn, missed the D.K. recommendation. Sorry. Will check them as soon as this reply is over.

BTW, I checked it all out, removed the rubber cones, kinda squished (no crap huh), re-installed, and still bent. Huh, removed the clamps, swapped sides to make sure it was not the bars being bent. Then the other side was pulled back! ugh,... I think I must have bent the new bolt going thru the cone/top clamp. I loosened it all up, turned the clamp around, and it made it almost straight, but definately noticeable. So, in the mean time, I am going to see about ordering a new bolt, if it is sold separately.
Thanks for the links and help.

Charlie.

Crogg, not really no. But, I dont like the fact that everytime the bars are bumped it off centers the bar. This has become a quest for me, that is to remain rubber side down, no tree smacking, etc.. so I can save some parts from my destructive riding skills. But I am getting much better and same time scarier.

I did get the local shop, Competition Dirt, to order me a new bolt pack as well since the one in it now is bent.

Hopefully wednesday all will be well once again.

Thanks.

Charlie.

Installed the Aluminum Cones from DK, and let me tell you...the ride is so so so much better. I was cautious at first, rode for an hour or so trying to rebuild my confidence in the new setup. Then it happened. I hit some jumps and pulled up hard and smooth, landed most of them text book too, but the few endo landings did not bother the wrists, bars or anything else. Second day riding with them, well had to take it easy after breaking my pinky knuckle, but the bars felt great. I cant thanks you guys enough for shedding the light on the Fastway Alum Cones. Thanks bro's.

Charlie.
