Default In need to bounce this question off you guys....

hey there guys...question for you, i just redone our kdx250 engine...crank, bearings, cyl replate yada yada...the carb settings we had been running before rebuild was; 38mm pwk, CEL needle on mid position, mj 168, 40 pj, With safe rich conditions (plug was always black). With that being the case, Should these be safe to continue to run for break in? Reason i ask is because ive done 1 heat cycle and bike didnt hardly smoke at all...and when i gave it a couple blips the revs hung for abit. In your opinion would you richen clip or put in richer needle? Im not sure what stock needle is for bike but a 165mj and 42 pj is stock from what my manual says. hope this makes sense...lol Merry Xma

2 strokes don't smoke when having a fresh top end normally except they have been idling for a few minutes.

Leave it s it is run it as you run it normally and check the plug.

If the "Revs hang a bit" I would suspect an air leak!

i did a leakdown test....pumped to 6.3 it held to 5.6 after 15 mins. so im hoping thats good. i also double checked intake boots and clamps...all checked out. After thr throttle blips it just goes bing ba bing bing...lol...which it didnt do before rebuild. but within 3 secs its back down to normal.

"sounds" like a lean condition at low fuel air circuit, use 42 pilot jet and try again, also very important you did not mention what is the air screw position?

if the engine was low on compression previously then this is possible to happen, on my CR '93 i used the proper domed piston (previous owner had flat one) as per original and now it runs on the lean side at low rpm's so had to use one size larger pilot jet.
