Default KX500 Exhaust Question

Does anyone know of a good silencer or silencer/pipe combo for an '03 KX500. I'm looking to reduce the sound level as much as possible and would like a US Forestry spark arrestor as well. Any suggestions?

I would run the stock pipe until it is toast, then go with the FMF Gnarly. They also have a USFS approved arrestor for it as well. Go have a look at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I have the FMF Turbine core on my 2004 KX500. Didn't change the sound level, but it does have a USFS spark arrestor on it, which is why I bought it. I think that Pro Circuit also sells a pipe and silencer combo for the KX500, but I don't know if it has a spark arrestor built in.

Thanks for the help. I had hoped someone might of heard of using a FMF Q series silencer on a KX500. Maybe it would be too restrictive.

I am running the fmf combo gnarly pipe turbine core silencer and love the low end grunt. As far as sound levels go, I noticed a slight decrease in noise when I bolted on the TC silencer, however, when I ran next to my friend on his KX500 stock silencer, I was convinced that mine was substancially quieter. Just my experience. I have yet to hear the pro circuit forestry approved silencer on a kx500. Good luck...

Is the stock KX500 really that loud? I am getting a new '04 this week (thurs), and I have never ridden one, or heard one for that matter. I wonder if it's louder than my XR650R with the competition exhaust tip? Because the Honda is loud, but it's low pitched and the sound is not annoying especially from a distance.
Also I have heard the KX500 is pretty fast? Well, as long as it's lighter than my pig XR, and has plenty of low end power it should be good.
A guy I know who has a CR500 rode my XR650R and said, "yeah, the power is respectable, good torque, that's about it" I took that to mean my XR is kinda slow compared to the big 2strokes? Any info on this ? thanks !

the KX rips, and Tyler's KX was REALLY quiet when i heard him run it at splendora. my 125 with a shorty silencer is way louder (planning on getting a longer/quieter silencer in the near future)

i believe that Pro Circuit has a Type 296 quiet silencer with a spark arrestor. the FMF gnarly pipe adds protection (thicker metal) and more bottom end (like you need it!!)

the XR will be much much louder than the KX, you'd be surprised

I have a Pro Circuit USFS approved spark arrestor on my kx250. I found it very difficult to reassemble after re-packing. I ended up drilling out the pop rivets on the exit end, reassembling the silencer, then installing sheet metal screws.

I have the Fatty Desert pipe along with a Powercore II silencer and my 500 is quiet. The powercore is not a spark arrestor unit though. The Turbinecore or Q would be the way to go if you're going to run the FMF.

My KX500 has the Pro Circuit on it, and it has a Pro Circuit spark arrestor on it as well. It seems fairly quiet, but I have not really gotten on it hard on the street yet.
