Default Kawi + bottom/mid power

I ride a 91 KX 250, my buds ride a 89 YZ250 and 94 YZ250.

Both their bikes are so high strung with no bottom and very little mid if any. You have to wind those things out to get them to go, but now mind oyu they do go when you wind them out. But they are hard to control and get the power out of on tight trails and hill climbs..............not for the inexperienced.

My KX on the other hand has so much bottom and mid its so smooth to ride and get the power out of for the tight trails and hill climbs, I don't need to be a proffesional to get the power out of it.

Now the guy I bought my bike off used it as his practice moto bike, so I don't know if he had anything done to the motor in regards to porting to make the power so low down. I'm running like 13/48 sprockets as well. Damn if I went to like a 14/54 or some thing I could tow a semi trailer. I guess my FMF fatty helps with the down low power also.

It sucks when I'm on long straight trails with the boys and their sick top ends but 95% of the time my power range is superior.

I guess I just want to know where your guys bikes make their power at? Are Kawi's known for bottom to mid stump pulling power?

I also took my main jet down from a 160 to a 158 and man what a difference!

I have an 02 cr250 which had somewhat of a top end hit.I decided to put the v-force reedvalve on it and now the power band is much wider than before. Now it pulls harder everywhere.

i have a 1989 kx125 and the power is all at the top end, but thats how most 125's are. i would imagine it is even worse with the new ones where some of them have only five gears. I go trail riding and my bike does okay but when we get to a field my bike shoots away and leaves my dad and brother in the dust. I also do hill climbs on our upstate property and it is awsome, it is so light even for an 89 it only weighs 194 dry. My dad has a suzuki DRZ and it weighs like 300 pounds its so hard to muscle around like my bike.

Those are some old bikes. Could use alot of work or a new top end. My 03cr250 has alot of everything since I rejet and with the V-force and the doma pipe. I just goes one, there is no lag.

Old bike or not who cares. what are the choices, no bike cause I can't blow 8gs right now, or an older bike which I can enjoy and beat the crap out of for the time being.

Anyway I'm no proffessional racer, I just enjoy a decent ride with some jumps and climbs and that sort of thing, and my 91 KX 250 accomplishes that with ease. I could sink some money into her and get new exhaust valves and that **** but why really. However the winter I'll probably do a complete bottom and top end rebuild and put in a new reed valve.

Maybe the summer I'll sell it a buy an 05 CR 250. Can't see what the big deal with all the four strokes are. They don't seem to be prone to less maintenance that the 2 smokes.

Better yet I'll keep my bike for the time being an purchase a new snow machine for next winter

Kawasaki does seem to tune their bikes to be torquey and easier to ride, as Hybrid mentioned. My 125 was surprisingly torquey when I got it, but it just didn't go fast enough on top for me. The fatty I put on it made it rev better, but it does not have the low end it used to.

My bike has great power throughout the entire RPM range. It has had some cylinder work done to it though. What I like about my bike is it is very smooth. It doesn't hit the powerband hard. I have purposely tried to bog my bike down by going up monster hills and it just will not bog. My buddies 97 KX125 has to be pegged out to go up a hill and he still has a hard time. I can start at any speed and make it with no problem.

I have a 2000 YZ125, and I'd have to say it is all around good. When I first got it, I thought it was kind of wimpy on the low end, not bad just seemed like it needed more. I turned out the airscrew to 1 1/2 from 3/4 and it made a big difference.

I thought that I was doing alright on low, really good mid and better than average on top.

Now that I have ridden a few other bikes, 97 RM125 and 97 CR125, I can say that my bike has a HUGE bottom end compared to theirs, can anyway say bog? I found the RM to have more of a hit in the mid, but I suspect that is because of the horrid low end, it's all relative. The RM also has a nice top end, probably pulls longer than my YZ on top, it semms mine goes a little flat. The CR has just as much as the RM in low but medium mid, and way flatter top than my YZ.

So here's how I'd put em.

2000 YZ125 stock! GREAT low end, managable mid range still very fast, top end great but lets go earlier than the RM. "Feels" just right. Stable but hard to turn.

1997 RM125 mods: pipe, silencer, reeds. NO LOW END! Huge difference between low and mid, so in other words, gargantuan HIT, revs very high and keeps pulling. "Feel's" short lengthwise. Fairly easy to turn.

1997 CR125 mods: pipe, silencer. NO LOW END! Medium "hit" still not anything to fall in love with, goes flat early on top. "Feels" smaller than the rest. Easy to turn.

Just my experiences with those particular bikes. Keep in mind the YZ is mine, so I will be jaded to an extent about the feel of it.
