Default Future of the 2 Stroke?

I have a 9 year old that has decided to race. I went to price a new KX 65 and was told that this is the last year for the KX65 and that they are phasing out all of the 2 strokes. Does anyone have any input on how long they will allow the 2 strokes race? Or are they going to strickly a four stroke motocross only sport. What does the future show for the small riders? I have two more small riders coming up so I would like to know. Thanks for any and all replies.

get a ktm they have a better resale value and they have no intentions on stopping 2 stroke production or development as a matter of fact there is a rummor that they have developed a 2 stroke that will end the reign of the 4stroke using an efi

I think that's a bit premature. I haven't heard of anyone making a sub-85cc class thumper and even in the 85 and 100cc classes honda is the only one with a thumper (CRF150R) and its far from the universal choice for such classes.

As for ktm v kawak - the kawak is cheaper to buy and a lot cheaper to fix I suspect (parts prices - I know some things on the big ktm's, even simple stuff like fork seals can be drastically more expensive than japanese bikes - guessing the little ones are the same way).

Just stick with the KX they are great little bikes, my son rides a Kx60 and the little green blur, is wicked fast and reliable.
