87 KX500

Hey Guys I have searched high and low and cant seem to find the piston for this bike, I went ahead and ordered a piston kit from an 88 according to my dealer the parts are the same except the dual ring piston. This bike is my friends and im trying to help him out.

did the dealer give us bogus info? I cant imaging the piston being that different.

Sounds right to me. Here's another bit of info: kxriders.com It is full of KX500 guys doing all kinds of wild thing with our beasties.

Yes 87 is single ring and the 88-04 is dual ring piston. Everyone just puts the 88 on piston in the 86-87 KX5.
