The AMA will not make a difference to the manufacturers. The EPA will. The new AMA rules will bring more bikes and riders to the races, filling fields, making for better racing. That's good! It won't make the 2 stroke live in the States. It seems all this starts in Cali...then the rest of the USA adopts it. Rotor Last edited by Rotorranch; 12-26-2007 at 11:59 PM. |

| You don't have a clue if you think California had anything to do with the metrics not producing the 2 stroke... |

| Rotor, A couple of years ago I sounded a lot like you. The two stroke it seemed had been outlawed by higher forces than the AMA. I never figured that anyone would ressurect it, not economically feasible etc. We now have two stroke snowmachines that burn as cleanly as their fourstroke counterparts. Same with outboard motors. The feds are buying the new two strokes to use in patrol boats in fact. Rotax and others have the technology to produce green sticker two strokes. FYI the race 4 strokes wont get you on most public land in calif. You can still get carbureted two strokes that are clean enough in snowmobiles, but those wont be around long now that the indirect injection systems have come into their own. Same as happened with the outboards. 2s rigs wont be the same for long, but it looks like their will could be more of them racing in 08 than in 07. Like I said, it will be interesting to see if the clubs offer the guys who bought 250f's a place to race against eachother. |

| FFR, there is more in that one sentence than in the paragraphs I just wrote. |

| If you want to see where 2-stroke technology can go just look at the Evinrude E-tech outboards. They burn cleaner than the heavy, expensive, slow 4-stroke outboards. Demand would bring them back but too make them popular the AMA would have to reintroduce them to racing in a way that makes them competitive with the 4-stroke classes. Fuel injection and modern electronics would make them epa legal. It might even make a 250 2 stroke competitive with the 450's. It's no different than diesel engines. Diesel is basically an oil and they have found a way to make them epa legal (even if they do use a particlate filter). I was looking at videos on [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and saw a ride demonstration of the 2007 Yamaha and KTM 125 and 250 2 strokes. Made me want to go buy one! Hmmmm.... a new 300cc FI 2 stroke sure would be nice alternative to a 450 |

Cali set their rediculous standards, and the Feds adopted them. Rotor |

| reading those EPA articles, I think some of your missed this point: Of course, this is from 2001 Is EPA regulating competition motorcycles? No. The Clean Air Act excludes from emissions control programs vehicles used solely for competition. We recognize that organized amateur off-highway motorcycle competition is popular around the country. We are proposing provisions that will allow manufacturers to make and sell competition motorcycles that do not meet emissions requirements. Also, riders may modify off-highway motorcycles that are used solely for competition. and 2002: Is EPA regulating competition motorcycles? The Clean Air Act excludes from emissions control programs vehicles used solely for competition. We recognize that organized off-highway motorcycle competition is popular around the country. Provisions in the final rule will allow manufacturers to make and sell competition motorcycles that do not meet emissions requirements, as long as these bikes are dedicated competition models and not for general use. Also, riders may modify off-highway motorcycles that are used solely for competition. In some cases manufacturers may choose to make competition models that are certified to meet emission standards; see the fact sheet referenced below for more infomation. here's some other reading: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Basically, the EPA has no power over competition vehicles. So the AMA would have influence on what is sold in the states for MX. Last edited by jloev1974; 12-28-2007 at 08:30 AM. |

| yea and bombardier just released a new sled called the tnt 600 it uses the e-tec style engine and mixs at 500:1 via the oil injection it aso now winterizes your motor so no more having to run stabilizer threw the motor and u doont run the risk of condisation in the cylenders they also say u dont have to touch your spark plug for 3 years garentied i think here in canada home of the drunkin hockey fights is where the rebirth of the 2 stroke will start. just my 2 cents |
