Default 05 KX 250 first impression

Just rode the first 05 KX 250 at the local dealership......Bubba is going to do some damage on that bike. The motor...oh the motor...has power everywhere. Internally it is very similar to the potent Yamaha. Power wise it is similar too, except it has more through the midrange and top end!!! Yes I said top end. Kawi finally built a bike with top end....STOCK! Never felt that much power from a stock 250!!! The suspension feels a lot like the Honda's which is very very good. Should be taking delivery of one next week and will give a full ride report later.

I agree with you Woodster!! They have all had to really step it up on the 2 strokes because of the 4 strokes getting soooo good!
This way everyone wins! Wether you like 2 or 4 strokes....... or both! Picking the KX up tomorrow!!!!

Absolutely. All of them would appear to be pretty nice this year.

Yamaha was already pretty good, but with the new suspension it should be even better. The Zuk was good already too. The kawi has now stepped up to the plate, KTM has always been a screamer, and supposedly the suspension and chasis are a lot better this year too. As for the Honda, guess we'll see. Should have the 4th gen frame, and hopefully they something about the engine (not that it's too bad, but not the hottest either).

Please gives us all the goods on that bike Crogg! I'm hoping I will be able to work a KX 250 into my budget sometime next year. Glad to hear that you think it's a really good performer!

Picked up the KX friday and took it to my garage and started to tweak on it. Greased all the linkage bearings and steering stem bearings ect...and fft and grease on the filter, set sag and the clickers and went to bed. Got up really early (couldn't sleep...HEE HEE) and headed out to my favorite testing area. The 05 KX250 is flat awesome!!! The suspension is unreal! The suspension and handling alone would make it worth buying but there is something else that puts it over the top for me......The motor is killer fast with gobs and gobs of torque. It reminds me of my CRF450 in a lot of ways. It will pull just about any gear at any time. You can short shift it or rev it, either way it hauls big butt!!! (mine) I can't believe that this thing is stock!!!!! Well, the bad news is that I have to give it to my son this week so he'll have something to race in the pro class as he was just moved up! The good news is that it will be back for me to tune after each race!
I can't wait to peer into the motor to see how much more power we can find!!!! It doesn't need anymore but, I've always been and always will be a power junkie. After riding this bike I may also tranform into a handling junkie....this bike is a blast to ride! I've been thinking about getting a new 4 stroke to replace the CRF that i sold last year. I'm going up to Idaho to ride a guys KTM 525 sx with a six speed in two weeks and that's what I'm leaning towards but now I'm not sure.....I just might have to get an 05KX250 for myself.......more later....I'm going out to the garage and drool for awhile!

Wow Crogg, sounds like a nice bike. "Gobbs of torque"; "like [your] CRF450"--sounds like Kawasaki may be onto something this year . . . .

I'm hoping that the New YZ 250s will be awesume not just because of the suspension, but I'm hoping that the frame and the engine will help it on it's way too.

That's awesome Crogg!

So what number does your son race with?

I was out at Tooele yesterday (read Monday) and their was a guy (988 I think was his number) on a what would appear to be brand new KX250 (no numbers on the bike).

He was hauling some booty.

That didn't just happen to be your son was it?

Good eye Woody!!! Yes it was!!! His # is 989 but no #'s on his new bike yet! The guy just behind him on another KX250 (03) #151 is my younger son. They both are getting to be sooo fast....as a father it is hard to watch sometimes and it's getting way harder to keep up! (ha,ha) I can hang for a lap or two then I get pooped!!!! (Read too many triples at Wendy's) Not enough weights at the gym!!!

Right on... That's really cool. I saw them both out there. 989 is magic on a bike. I spent quite a bit of time watching him (I was there with my boys on the mini track, didn't have my bike)

I saw your other son, and he's pretty fast as well.

I'm hoping my son's will be out there ripping it up just like that one day.

Very cool. Next time I'll have to say hi to them. I'll ask if they know Mr Wendy's

Anyway, tell them from an outsider point of view that they both were a blast to watch. 989 was doing bubba sort of moves off one of the doubles and man was he laying it flat on the big table too.

Ok, so in talking to mxerhale (who saw your son up in idaho this last weekend), it has come to my attention that you son may also be the star of our Mesquite video's.

have you seen any of them? Their is a kid on a KX250, with yellow extreme gear, #989 ripping up the track. None of us knew who he was, but he was close to if not the fastest guy on the track when we were there, so we couldn't help but get lots of footage of him (really fun to watch).

I don't know if you have high speed internet or not, but watch these video's and tell me if this is your son.

Mesquite I (15.9mb)

Mesquite II - we have him for about half a lap right in the middle. (29.5mb)

Sorry for the size. I can get you links to smaller ones if you are on dialup.

Actually, here's the link to the directory --> http://www.zoohoot.com/mx/videos/

The ones ending in .mov are smaller in size (quality isn't nearly as good either). One of them is Mesquite2_amd.mov (same as the second video link).

Let me know if that's him.

When I started reading this thread the guy down in Mesquite immediately came to my mind. That would be funny if that is him. So when are you going to come riding with us Crogg??

Yes that was my son!! We've enjoyed all of the awesome videos. It seemed like everytime a new video came out my kid was on it!!! And yes he was on his old bike in Idaho last weekend winning the first moto and then getting a flat and borrowing a bike just to be able to ride! You know young and fast but no tools or $$$ I was home attending to other family matters. I'm going to try and hit a ride with you guys in the near future Keep me posted on the upcoming rides!!!!

LOL, I can't believe you haven't said anything up to this point. We've loved watching him everytime we go. Turns out your Son is a legend here on ATM and we didn't even know it.

That's really cool. Next time I see him I'll have to go say hi. What's your son's name? Jared L.???

What class did he race in Idaho? I heard Cole Siebler took 1st in the Pro class, both moto's, so did he race intermediate?

Oh, and one other question. I don't think your son was wearing Xtreme gear when I saw him monday, but I could be wrong. What did he think of it?

We're headed to Mesquite again the weekend of November 13. Are you going to try to make that one?
