I just use gearbox specific oil. I don't know what weight that is, but I am guessing that 10w30 should be fine..

Yes, this is the amount you should put it in.
But you can put the correct amount in by following the following method.

Drain all trans oil out.
Have bike on even stand.
When you go to put new oil in, look for a small bolt on one of your cases.
When you find it, unscrew it and start adding the oil.
When oil starts dripping from this hole then you know that's the amount to add.

I just checked my trans oil and it is infact 10w30.

So that viscosity should be perfect.

My bike manual says I should use 10w 40 for a wide variety of temperatures. If I rode where it was colder they state to use 10w 30, but if you ever ride in 90+ temperatures, to use the 10w 40.

It does state that you should not use oil with friction modifiers, because they can affect your clutch.

Try Amsoil 10w40 Synthetic 4 Stroke Motorcycle Oil. It has not friction modifiers.

Synthetics can make your clutch screwey too. Safe bet is Regular Pensoil 10w30. Cheap and good. I prefer non-synth and just change more often. In my Yamaha's I always hit false neutral too easy with synth oil.

Oh no, another oil discussion. I use Castrol 10-30w or 10-40W in a 2003 YZ125 and a 2000 CR250 with no problems. I change it every 2nd or 3rd ride.

Amsoil 10w40 Synthetic 4 Stroke Motorcycle Oil is made for wet clutches. It does not contain friction modifiers. It works well with a wet clutch. No slipping. It is far superior to convention motor oil. A lot less wear on your gears and bearings.

right now i use transoil that is like 7$ a bottle and change itt like every 3-4 rides. would it be safe to use a cheaper motorcycle oil and change it like 2-3 rides? I really have no problem with paying for transoil if other oil wont work but i need to save money cause im getting a 250f soon.
