Default small problem, need help

First of all, I ride a '01 CR250 and here is what happenned. I was shifting into 2nd gear and the clutch lever went slack and the cable was no longer attached. I am assuming it broke and I also noticed a heavy black grease on the lower frame near the rear brake on the right side. What exactly happenned and how hard of a fix is it? I have a Clymer's manual and I am pretty mechanically inclined. Any help will be much appreciated.

Sounds like you snapped the cable. Pull the ignition cover then manipulate
the clutch lever and see if the clutch actuator moves. If not, simply replace
the cable. If the actuator moves, you have a more serious problem. Cable
replacement is very easy and is covered in your Clymers and your owners
manual.

The black "spooge" on the frame can probably be traced to the joint between
the pipe and silencer. A quick fix is to safety wire the rubber joint cover at
the silencer and the pipe to insure a tight seal. You may also be jetted a
little rich or you just need to twist the throttle harder.
