Porting a CR250 Have any of you had good luck porting a CR250 to get the powerband a little more usable? I have an 03, and I know a lot of my problems are user experience, but I'm looking for ways to smooth out the powerband. Make it get on the pipe quicker, stay on the pipe easier and a smoother hit. I ride MX and am a beginner class by the way.

Well i was with crogg once when he ported a 03 cr250, i think it was a 03 not sure. Anyway after he ported it it was fast and had a great super smooth powerband, i was fairly impressed. However he did some pretty radical porting, the likes of which could not be done by someone who is not a professional. I would say contact crogg and ask him, he knows how to do it. Whether he wants to write the whole thing up or not might me another story. Good luck.

Eric Gorr did a "Mo Betta" port job on my 2002 CR250 and it did what you're looking for.

I had Wes Gilbert at Boyesen Precision Porting handle my '03 CR250 cylinder and head. He really smoothed out the hit and the thing flat rips now. Really smooth roll-on power.

To be honest, I think you'll gain more by just making sure your jetting is spot-on and getting as much track time as possible. Don't be afraid to use the clutch a bit and pay attention to your gear selection. Even spending a bit of time on a 125 (much better choice for a beginer imo) would be a good idea. For now, don't worry about lap times or race wins, just try to improve your skill level, that will give you the biggest return in terms of speed and fun. Modding the bike will make a very small, one time difference. If anything, getting the suspension setup for your weight and conditions would be much more benificial I suspect. best of luck
