Motor Swap

I have a 87 cr250 that has a bad crank, broken power valve actuator, and a broken sleeve, The repair shop says it will cost close to 1K to fix it.

I have found other motors for around 500$ but dont know what years will fit in a 87 bike.

If anyone has any knowledge on this please reply and thank you very much.

i dont know, however i'd like to welcome ya to ATM.

if you are especially thrifty and have access to a welder, you may be able to shoehorn a newer motor in there. you'd need the electronics and radiator though, which compared to 1k isn't really too bad. most people selling complete motors sell them with the electronics complete with them, and fabricating new mount brackets is a snap. the big thing is fitting the radiator in there, i'm not sure if the 87 is water-cooled?

I would like to fix the motor but the problem is a little more indepth. It seems that honda has quit listing and selling parts for this year. i couldnt even get the springs on the top of the powervalves and they are different from all others, thats what honda tells me anyway!

FFRacing11x could you give me some more info on where i could posibly get some aftermarket parts?


Blitz393 Yes 87 is water cooled and do have access to a welder, Can i make my radiators work or will i still need to get the proper ones for the year of motor? If i getting parts is going to be a continuing issue for the 87 i would just as soon shoehorn something in there that i can work with! Or possibly move out of the stone age and get something newer.
