Default Fly wheel weight

Im really thinking of weighting the fly wheel on my cr to add some bottom end. I ride mostly trails so i think it would help, as long as it doesnt take away from the top end. Anyone try it on a cr, and how did it work out for you?

Sorry I can't help you out here personally CR, but everyone I have talked to who did this felt this was one of the best mods that could be done for trail riding. The extra mass creates more inertia, which makes for less stalling and more bottom-end hook up.

Let us know how it works out if you decide to go with it.

I have one on my YZ and as DCox stated, it is the best performance mod I have made. I didn't notice any loss in the top end at all, but man, the improvement on the bottom is incredible. No more stalling in tight stuff, WAY less wheel spin in the loose/steep stuff, just a great thing to have, and if you go with a Steahly bolt on, you can remove it in just a few minutes if you want to go out on the track or something. Given my level of riding skill, I even like having it on the track. I'm probably a B rider when it comes to trails/enduros, but totally C when it comes to MX.

flywheels are a good idea sometimes but be careful what bike you put it on. if your bike has a healthy bottem end then the flywheel will make that power delivery smooth. but if your bike is weak down low its a bad idea because it is litteraly puts an extra load on the engine. just some food for thought

I think servise honda or rocky mountainmc would both have them. But what size indeed? And could someone help me out on the basic idea of it? It snappes onto the flywheel to slow the motor down adding more bottom(which my cr has practicly none) If you have too much weight it could overload the engine and skrew things up. So my question is how much weight do you need to add and how do you know?
thanx

If you go more than 10oz (12oz or 14oz) you have to mod the ignition cover to get it to fit. IMHO I would get the 10oz. It doesn't take power away, just makes it more tractable. It can however uncover imperfections in your jetting (if you have any). If you end up needing more than 10oz you can switch to steel clutch plates vs. stock aluminum for another couple oz added weight.

Good point, but when I bought my 11oz, Steahly included a spacer for my ignition cover and that did the trick.

Ive also thought about a flywheel weight, because the woods here are tight, and the market for dirtbikes around here sucks, meaning I most likely cant get the WR400 ive been looking at (even though it IS less power), but i have a few concerns other than those listed. Any input would be awesome.

1. Is there extra wear involved with more weight?
2. Its said not to be a downer on power, but how can this be true? Does it loose explosion?
3. How is fit-finish? I kind-of promised myself to stay away from aftermarket stuff after spending a lot of money on things that just dont fit the way they should.
4. Is it the type of thing where i can just replace it with the stocker without worrying about gaskets/wear/tear/installation time?

Thanks guys!

I have a steahly 12 oz. on my CR250, you don't have to mod the cover or use thicker gaskets.

You will be very impressed with how the cr will run with the extra weight. The other nice thing is you can install or remove it in about 5 min.

Go to the link to steahly and read up on it, you can sometimes find them on ebay as well, I got mine on ebay for $21.
