It is not uncommon for a motor to show its production year and the frame to show the model year. The motor would be for the model year even though it was produced in the previous year. Like in November of 85 to be assembled in a bike in December so it could be on the showroom floor in January 86. The only other explanation would be the previous owner popped an 85 engine in an 86 frame. Doubt it. Best place to ask would be at your Honda dealer.
