CR500AF - what pipes & silencers?

Hey everyone,

I'm trying to figure out what everyone uses for silencers on all these CR500AF project bikes. I know that FMF and ProCircuit both make a "500AF" pipe which is basically a CR500-type exhaust but with mounting points to fit the aluminum 250 chassis. My question is: what silencers do they use on these bikes? Is it a standard CR250 silencer or is it a CR500AF-specific model. In other words, if you called up FMF or ProCircuit and ordered a CR500AF pipe and silencer combo, I know you'd get a CR500AF-specific pipe, but would the silencer also have a CR500AF-specific part number or would it simply be a CR250 silencer for the appropriate year CR250?

hello there mate i built a 98 cr 250/500 myself and use a pro circuit on the front and a fmf rear. i spoke to the guy on the phone when ordering them and had to order an af rear for the bike as the guy stated that otherwise the two pipes would not fit together as the 500 joints are bigger in diamater,im not sure about this as iev not much to do with 250s,but there you go

Could you order "500AF-specific" pipes from FMF and/or ProCircuit? I've heard that Service Honda will only sell 500AF pipes to folks who can prove they have a genuine Service Honda.

you can order an af pipe from fmf for he af,go to their web site and have a look or email them,their realy helpful,helped me out,just state the year of conversion

Sweet! That's EXCELLENT news!

I was worried that I'd have to find a Service Honda owner and then arrange a "you buy it from them, I buy it from you" type of deal.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to the FMF website to go Christmas shopping.

OK, got an update:

FMF only sells the "Gnarly" pipe for the CR500AF. No other options exist on the FMF side of the fence. They're currently out of stock, but will have more on 12/20 or so.

ProCircuit makes pipes, but only sells to Service Honda directly.

I don't recall hearing of any companies that do that. But if they did it would probably cost a ton of money to have a single pipe made!
