I have been reading for days now on 03 cr 250 carb problems, my head hurts. like alot of other people on here i too am having problems with a used bike, that i bought a year ago. I want to buy a pwk a/s but want to test it out first. I have access to a pwk off of a 2001 yz 250. could i hurt anything by doing this?

hey thanks for the reply. The problem is at the bottom end. it kind of sputters and sounds like the plug is fouling under a load or incline in first and second gear.you cant bogg it down. but in the powerband its fast and sounds good

You may not have a carb problem. I've never heard of these bikes having carb trouble. I had the same symptoms you are describing from my '02 CR 250 before I turned it into a 500AF. Check (or have checked) your wiring harness. The other potential problem is to much slack on the RC valve cables. But, mine was the wiring harness.

Yep, you will have to go back to 1999 on yz's to find a carb without TPS.

check out the Feb' 2007 issue of MXA. They have some jetting recommendations.

You can use the carb. Just don't connect the TPS. It's a passive device on the carb. In other words, it notifies the ignition about the position of the slide and the ignition advances or retards to compensate for the slide opening. If it's not connected, it won't do anything. For everyone else, the 2002-2007 CR250 uses a Mikuni TMX. It is well documented that when jetted perfectly it works OK. Unfortunately, a 10 degree swing in temps or a change in humidity can cause the carb to need rejetting. The Keihin PWK is not as picky so most people seem to like the swap. The JD Jetting kit for the Mikuni fixes a lot of the problems, but the Mikuni still needs constant attention. The ultimate fix for the carb woes on this bike is the 1999 CR250 Keihin PWK which you can pick up from Service Honda for under $170. It pretty much is a set it and forget it solution.

im not sure what the jetting specs call for , but i have a #380 and a #30 pilot. im running red line oil at 44:1 and 100 octane gas. bike is all stock except v force 3 reeds and a fmf q2 , and i ride at an elevation of sea level to 1000ft. ps: i went riding today and took the old trusty 1994 cr 250. Its old but it still kicks ***.

I want to thank Vintage Dave for waiting until later in the thread to post. Otherwise just think of all the carburetor expertise that I would have missed being exposed to ;-). Last edited by crfjedi393; 01-07-2007 at 08:58 PM. Reason: Please don't call him VD.:D
