| This one is beginning to take on a life of it's own isn't it?????? If you have a big enough loss of primary compression to keep you from getting enough transfer charge to even start by push starting, I think you will be able to hear where it is coming from. WOW! (what a revelation) If you really think it may be the head gasket, take your radiator line off the head and kick it over while you or someone listens,,,since you can do it with your hand, it shouldnt be hard. If it doesnt have enough compression to start you should be able to hear it. (as in the air leaking into the colling system) Since I seem to be having some trouble understanding what Flavor has done or hasn't done so far, I will ask, have you checked to see if you seized it?? I am not sure what you mean by taking it down, as in did you remove the cylinder since you suspected your phathead problems? I am sure that replacing the lower end seals is a good idea on a 5 year old bike though, and all those test gizmos are fun and nice to have, but really, a compression loss that large wont need anything for me to find it. But then again, what would I know lol,,,my bikes all run as they have for the last 35 years. |

| well, i built the leak tester, first pump i could hear air hissing out from the back edge of the rubber gromment that is part of the PV cover. the piston was at BDC as faded indicated it should be. that grommet was also brand new so im confused on how to correct it, gonna pull the cover off and take a look at the gasket later today. if anyone cares to take a look, i posted a pic and put an arrow showing to where the air is escaping. |
