Default Air Hammer

Took my '82 "Air Hammer" CR480 out for a little spin today.
Redid the shock and wanted to see how it felt.
Nothing spectacular, just down to the cornfield and back.
The cornfield was like riding on elephant snot because we've had about a weeks hard rain.

The 480 sounds healthy. Have to be careful on that trail or you
may come face to face with a working excavator!

What kind of work did you need to do to the shock and how did
it turn out?

Thanks for the video.

Hi Dogger,
Nothing but fresh oil and a proper charge.
I did run the preload up some though. It was set real low.
Funny, it's always been a bear to start being left side kick and all.
I have had times when it was relatively easy to start though.
Sunday I took it out and kicked it through till I got tired and went back in and watched stupidcross.
After the races, I went back out and tried to start it again.
It "choofed" me a couple of times and I knew it wanted to start but, I decided to go back inside and have some coffee.
When I reached down to put the stand in the axle I realized why it wouldn't start and "choofed" me.
The plug was in the silencer.
Started on the third kick after that and fourth kick in the video.
Anyway, there's a procedure for these as with the 500's.
Mostly putting the toes on the kicker so the foot goes under the peg and you get a full kick out of it.
As far as the road across the street, people ride horses over there all the time and I had seen a big group come out before I even started so, I don't go very fast into any of those turns.
They're still logging that land a little at a time and there's always some piece of heavy equipment in there.
I'm telling you, I love the feel of this bike.
It's got all kinds of power so gear selection isn't as critical as a 125 or 250 and it just feels good to ride it.
Wish I had a place like Glen Helen or Perris to ride it.
If we continue to have decent weather, I'll get some more vids of mine and my buddy Wills 1980 CR250.
He just put works performance shocks and 43mm forks on it.
He's got a spare swingarm coming and he's gonna lengthen it a bit.
It's a beautiful bike.

Well I've never done THAT

It's even worse when it happens in your pit at a race in front
of everybody

I know exactly what you're saying, I feel the same way when riding
mine. Right when it's starting to climb into the powerband, it's time
to jump on the brakes hard for the corner that's coming up way fast.
A big Nationals track would be a hoot. A track with long straights and
lot's of elevation change. Is your 480 a four or five speed?

Looking forward to the ride videos.

It's a 4 speed, '82.
Lots of people think the 5 speed is better and maybe it is I don't know.
I like it though.
Here it is before Gatorback, I like the black gripper seat I put on it since though.

And here it is at Diamond Dons, this start was fun!
I tried a 3rd gear start and when it hooked up, it was like a rocket!

There's little video of 480's, this is one of the best I've found.
I kinda like this track too.
