Default 87 Cr 125 restore job

Here is how it is coming so far, will update as I progress on it.

Here is how I bought it ......

.........and the progress

Each fork took about 2 hours, the one done here was the worst one.

New side case with powder coated clutch cover, then removed paint off "Honda". Honda should do that stock, looks way better that way, guess too much cost production wise to do ?

Swingarm took about 6 hours.........

Finally the fun begins .......

Here are the wheels too ......

I am looking for a nicer OEM rear wheel but they are VERY HARD to come by in nice shape and I only have a one year choice, just 87. I may get a new one but am leary of the gold being a deeper color and that would bug me, having two different hues of gold on.

Very Nice job!

What did you use on the swingarm and forks to make them so "shiny?"

How did you get rid of the original rough texture on the forks?

Thanks

Thank You !

The swingarm (being off the machine) you must take the clear coat off 1st with oven cleaner which takes about 20 minutes or so to do, you'll know when it's all off because it turns all black in color.

I can't remember which step was next, could be visa/versa but either way you can't harm anything ......I use this [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] to get the black off and then SOS stubborn areas if it didn't all come off.

That link is almost the same stuff that heating/aircond guys use to clean coils in the units, at least I think that is what they used it for, a heating guy gave me some one time but was not diluted at all and I could choose how strong I wanted mixing it with water and it was pink in color, just like this stuff and smelled identical, so if you know any guys in that line of work they may be able to hook you up with some.

Then wet sand the deepest scratches with 220 and proceed right on up (320,400, 600 and so on) to 1500 till it has a mirror finish, then hand polish with 00 fine steel wool and mothers or never dull wads.

......and of course those are new OEM PL logo's on.

I guess it was close to 6 hours I spent on swingarm. More experianced guys can do it a lot faster with orbital sanders/buffers but I don't have the skill or equipment to do that method.

The forks were done the same way but did not use the oven cleaner on them since most the clear coat was off anyway. They actually shine more then new since the factory clear coat or what ever it is, tends to give them a slightly greyish hue to them.

Here is a motor I did using that same product, well and a LOT of other detergents too ( no one would ever know it looked like it once did ) .....

Hey!!.....your from PA too, what area ? What bike you have ?

Bethlehem area... I just bought a '96 CR125 for a project and to learn on.

I have ridden quads for a couple years, but figured i'd give biking a shot.

Progress, FINALLY !

Motor completely rebuilt with new side casing and PC'd clutch cover.

Blue, Gold and Flame/Orange Red, Love that color combination!

Only thing that will not look stock besides the paint taken off Honda on clutch and ignition cover is the # plates will have blue backgrounds like this one .....

Will be a perfect balance of blue then with the boots, shock spring and the Honda shroud wings that has just a dash of blue in besides red & white.

Powder coating questions for you...did you have the clutch cover done in gloss or satin black? How did you get it off the "HONDA" afterwords?
Thanks

Satin for sure, gloss would have been way too shiny. It's still just a hair glossier then the stock color but certainly would not ever do flat.

The PC guy took it off with his disc air tool but if he didn't I would have sanded it off myself.

The ignition side was done same way but I didn't pick it up yet.

Thank You BBP, a lot of work, A LOT OF WORK! (and $$$)

It just amazes me how linkage bearings are neglected and sellers think their bikes are in good shape

These OEM parts alone were nearly 1/2 of what I paid for the whole bike!

More progress.......
