I have a 2000 CR80bw that has a new 105 kit. I has been leaking coolant out the overflow on reving, from the moment its started. I replaced the $35 radiator cap (rip off) and its still does it. I was told it may be the cyl. head gasket. . . any comments?? Ps I've done all the usual checking. I have a CR500Dualsport, LT500, TRX250r, CR80, CR105, (2) LT80s.

Yes it might be the head gasket, a friend of mine has a 1990 RM80 that had the same problem it was the head gasket, although it might just be to much for the coolant system with the 105 kit.........

Head gasket leakage was a problem with the stocker that only got worse with the big bores. I have heads for sale that are Oringed to alleviate this problem. Tdub

YEP OH YEP, it must be the coolant or the new displacement that makes it shoot out the overflow just as soon as it starts up!! Boy you bet you can develope 13 lbs of pressure just as soon as it fires!! Sorry to be so sarcastic, but if anyone read the original post and then wrote that,,well then I guess I am not sorry afterall. Get the oringed head or get yours oringed.

Jason, re-read the original post. It is not from overheating.

- really - i don't know what some yahoo has done i wasn't there but if the head is warped get it resurfaced, or (oringed)- nothing wrong with resurfacing- its been done for years-? since the beginning torq to (propper) specs there should be no air in the system -thats why theres a cap with a pressure release, and a over flow tube-incase it does just putting in water doesnt cut it - it will build up pressure, and change to steam-and will get Hot,and blow the head gasket bleed the system of air (before problems)-this helps -some gaskets have a certain way the go on- (up,or down) some can be put on and will block water holes- be sure to assemble properly buy a manual- it is a good thing to do-- is this better people-

Does it only spew out coolant until it gets down to a certain point in the radiator? Almost every 2 stroke liquid cooled bike will spit off about a half cup to a cup of coolant and then maintains its level. If it only does it when the radiator is clear full, there is probably nothing to worry about, but if it does it until the radiators are empty then you have troubles. You could have a blown head gasket allowing exhaust to enter the water jacket, thus blowing exhaust through the cooling system. If that where the case though you would have a lot of steam visible. If you are sure that you dont have a blown head gasket then I would try out some cooling additive. I believe that Maxima makes one, or you could check out your local parts store that usually has a pint of it. It does work, I used to have a CR500 that would spit a lot during the heat of the summer and that stuff did the trick.

I say check the head gasket and maybe try "Water Wetter" or "Engine Ice" I switched to the Engine Ice when i had my 250 motor modified and it works great plus, it's biodegradable !!!!!

It has been leaking coolant out the overflow on revving, from the moment its started

Yes Tryce, but maybe you and I are missing the point. If the owner uses a biodegradeable purple coolant when the coolant shoots out on the ground the rider and worms will be less likely to be burned, and the stuff will break down quickly. Sometimes we of the "aged" set just seem to miss what is really intended. It took me this long to figure out what the other posters really mean, and I hope this helped you too ;-)
