Default 2000 CR125 Rebuild

Hey guys,

Background: Bought my first ever dirtbike back in 2012 a 2000 cr125. Have done very little to it, forks were rebuilt and the crank bearing went out so the bottom end was replaced, powdercoated the frame and swingarm...nothing more than that tho. It had been sitting under a carport for a year or two as i didnt have a way to get it to the track after i sold my truck. So, i gave it to a friend because my riding buddy moved away and it was in rough condition. He broke it down, split the case and everything and has all the parts laid out on a table. Well...my buddy died last weekend at the race track and i want to finish this rebuild and give it back to his dad.

Goal: Rebuild the bike with moderate upgrades.

Problem: I've been out of the dirtbike game for a while and more or less forgot everything as far as the mods people do.

As it is now...my friend ordered a top end kit, new head (the old one was kinda beat up), and some gaskets and the like. I found a restyle kit for the 2013 plastic styles, i think i found a place that will still sell a fmf fatty for this thing, i need to get the shorty silencer as well.

Can someone help me out and let me know all the things to get to build this thing up right? I dont have like 10k to drop or nothing...but i dont mind spending a pretty penny to get this thing back to his parents in PROPER shape.

Head work (increase compression), reed block (Vforce or Boyesen), exhaust, port/polish job is all I can think of as far as building the motor goes. You could really get into treatments etc. on the trans parts and such, but I've never been down that rabbit hole.
