Question 1998 cr125 keeps flooding

Well i got my bike going today and i was riding it and taking it easy cuz it has a new top and bottom end. I noticed that it was kind of bogging down and didnt have full power. well i figured that my jetting was probably wrong since its kinda cold outside so i went and got a new jet and put it in. it started up first kick and rode it a little and it still wasnt quite right so i parked it and decided i would try the air screw. then when i went to start it again it wouldnt start. i kicked it a few times then decided to check the plug and it was flooded. so i changed back to the other jet that was in it originally and it still was flooding. so after that i took off the carb, removed the reeds, and took off the head and cleaned them all and after all that it still didnt start. it has good compression and good spark so i know its not that. Right now i have a 178 and 50 jet in and i dont know if that could be the reason it wont start. let me know what you think it might be. thanks.

That's a pretty big main you have in there...I have a 170 in mine. Cold weather should lean out your mixture a little bit, but you still might try taking the needle up a notch. Check your float and also the obvious stuff - make sure you're not leaving the choke on all the time. Your carb has the idle speed adjust and the choke on the same stem, right?

i checked the float and its working fine and i havent been leaving the choke on. and yes it has the idle adjust on the choke. im thinking sinces its been like 50 degrees outside that i should just get a smaller main. how small should i go?

The fact that the float is "working fine" does not mean it is set correctly. Your manual and several posts on her explain "how to adjust your float". If my memory serves me right, I believe you carb should be set at 15mm. Get your float level correct and then tackle the jetting issue. I would start with the stock specs and work from there.

No offense to you memory KKX...but it's 16mm Just checked my manual. Like I said, my main is at 170. Also, try screwing the idle speed all the way DOWN so that the bike has no idle. This particular design for choke/idle speed is bad, and over time the part wears down and lets too much fuel in while idling.
